Honey Boo Boo goes global....

The TLC reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is capturing the attention of audiences worldwide. The show recently premiered in Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg in January. It also premiered across Asia-Pacific on Jan. 31 and in Poland on Feb. 13. Upcoming premieres are scheduled for Italy, Sweden and across Latin America in March.

The star of the show, Alana Thompson, began her rocket ride to stardom when she appeared on the fifth season premiere of Toddlers & Tiaras. The network TLC decided to give Honey Boo Boo and her entire family their very own show. The show was so popular that about 2.2 million viewers tuned in for the series premiere on Aug. 8.

The Thompson family lives in McIntyre, GA, which has a population of 650 people. Even with the fame, the family plans to live in the same house and Alana is still attending the same school. Mother June Shannon explained that it's important to keep the family grounded, even though they are getting recognized worldwide.

According to Honey Boo Boo's Facebook fan page, her latest business venture has been supporting the sale of Girl Scout cookies in her community. According to a Facebook post on Tuesday, the cookies are $3.50 + shipping. All boxes are autographed by the family and include autograph family photo.

Only $3.50?! That's cheap. Didn't they raise their prices this year to like $4+? The Girl Scouts are such haters. Let her sell the damn cookies.
theblackwidow 1st-Mar-2013 03:27 pm (UTC)
They're 3.50 where I live
karis_azura 1st-Mar-2013 03:32 pm (UTC)
The Girl Scouts are such haters

They made Alana (honey boo boo) take down her fb campaign selling cookies for the community. Hoping they had a decent reason...
mynamehere07 1st-Mar-2013 03:56 pm (UTC)
Were the GS afraid that the Boo Boo's would try to profit personally from it?

It's a nice idea to use facebook to help sell boxes, but tbh, I would rather buy from my local troop, just because.
euphaeidae 1st-Mar-2013 04:10 pm (UTC)
Lots of troops have selling competitions so I guess they figured it was unfair since Alana has so much exposure.
cl0vergirl 1st-Mar-2013 06:21 pm (UTC)
this has actually happened before. i dont remember where but a girl created a web page to sell GS cookies to people in her neighborhood since they didn't want the girls going door to door. some parents got pissy and complained and the GS forced her to take down her site saying that again its dangerous to deliver them. parents were all just jealous their snowflake didnt think of it first.
kimmy_kun 1st-Mar-2013 03:47 pm (UTC)
They're $4 here.

Super. As if the world doesn't already think of us as fat, ignorant trash. /le sigh
tragickingdomxo 1st-Mar-2013 03:14 pm (UTC)
They may be fat, but they aren't trashy or ignorant.

The first video that comes up on youtube that isn't a mash-up of clips is called: "Honey Boo Boo's House Tour With June | Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." In it someone pees on the couch, and the mother scratches and pokes at it. Then, the father (?) picks his nose and wipes it on the very same couch as he holds a baby. THEN, she gets stabbed with someone else's toenail clippings in her bed. All this in one four minute "house tour" on Youtube - not even a full episode.

I don't think we are working with the same sense/scale of propriety.

I'm from Argentina and all my friends and I (my parents included) watch the Toddlers & Tiaras and the show is entertaining but we mostly watch it to make fun of them.

That sound shitty though but they pressure those little girls way too much and to us, that is disgusting. I can image why people would make fun of them
karis_azura 1st-Mar-2013 05:52 pm (UTC)
Congrats on calling a 7 year old girl trash.
scheisse 1st-Mar-2013 06:02 pm (UTC)
What's your point? Nothing anyone says or does is going to change that stereotype. You're acting just like the people who feel that way towards America. You don't look past the superficial aspect of something, thus why you labeled them as "ignorant trash".
cruel_idol 1st-Mar-2013 03:20 pm (UTC)
Go Team US. Spreading our unique influence in media/culture upon the world whether it likes it or not!

goddlesssinner 1st-Mar-2013 03:56 pm (UTC)
where are you from?
theblackwidow 1st-Mar-2013 03:28 pm (UTC)
I always buy Girl Scout cookies if I see girls selling them because Girl Scouts is a really good organization.
mynamehere07 1st-Mar-2013 03:41 pm (UTC)
Same here. Even thou I don't need to eat them, I can't help it, they do so many good things for young girls.
snoozeen 1st-Mar-2013 04:21 pm (UTC)
I honestly wish I could go back in time and make myself appreciate my time with the Girl Scouts more.

My troop just had some catty bitches. lol.

I did love going up to the snow and camping on the beach (I'm from Southern California so all these things are easy to do) and a few other things like the cookies.

But yeah...I'm really glad it was important to my mom that I be a daisy and then a brownie, at least for four or five years, and I'm going to be very happy to put any future daughter(s) I have in their organization.

platinumpinup 1st-Mar-2013 03:29 pm (UTC)
Even if I can't get into this show. I'm happy they use their "fame" for good purposes.
georgie_georgie 1st-Mar-2013 03:33 pm (UTC)
god bless ammurika!
georgie_georgie 1st-Mar-2013 03:36 pm (UTC)
lol maybe this can be a positive change? idk....the first time I went back to my home country people asked me if life in the US was like 90210 and The OC.
ediesedgwick 1st-Mar-2013 03:41 pm (UTC)
lmao personally I'd rather people think life was like the OC over Honey boo boo
goddlesssinner 1st-Mar-2013 03:56 pm (UTC)
lol ia
scheisse 1st-Mar-2013 06:04 pm (UTC)
You'd rather people think we're all fake, superficial assholes than loving caring people who teach our children to love themselves despite what people say?

Ok...
edwardemmett09 1st-Mar-2013 03:45 pm (UTC)
What's wrong with Sugar Bear?!?!?
hippie_chick 1st-Mar-2013 04:00 pm (UTC)
He was in an accident on an ATV, hurt his foot and developed an infection. It had been bad enough they were thinking they might have to amputate, but it ended up that wasn't necessary, and he's been released from the hospital now.
ari_hime 1st-Mar-2013 06:43 pm (UTC)
not sure where the previous commenter got their info, but sugar bear had a severe case of pancreatitis and had to go to the hospital.
invisiblemonkey 1st-Mar-2013 03:56 pm (UTC)
I'm in the Netherlands and I love watching that show when it's on, it's oddly sweet.
You'd have to be pretty ignorant yourself to think that every American is like that, tho.
goddlesssinner 1st-Mar-2013 03:58 pm (UTC)
Not really though. I think it's mostly because of politics. I'm from Argentina and our president is besties with Chavez so everyone here hates the USA unless you are rich and get to travel to Miami twice a year.
invisiblemonkey 1st-Mar-2013 04:02 pm (UTC)
Yeah, obviously your situation is different, but we're a Western country and while there are a lot of negative stereotypes (mostly because of the Bush years and the wars, lbr) we're also very familiar with American culture and know they're not all fat hicks.
