Holly Madison Plans to Eat Her Own Placenta, January Jones Calls Such Consumption "Very Civilized"

She may still be with child, but Holly Madison is already having a post-pregnancy craving.

"This might sound gross, but I'm totally plannng on having my placenta turned into pills I can take after giving birth," the former Playboy model and Girls Next Door star wrote Wednesday on her blog. "I heard it helps women recover faster and I want to recover as quickly as I can!"

Hugh Hefner's ex added, "Have any other moms out there done this?"

Well, as a matter of fact, Holly, some have. In particular, January Jones, who revealed back in March 2012 that she had opted to consume her placenta after welcoming son Xander.

And in the latest issue of Britain's Glamour, the Mad Men actress talks about how it simply worked wonders.

"It's a very civilized thing that can help women with depression or fatigue," Jones told the magazine. "I was never depressed or sad or down after the baby was born, so I'd highly suggest it to any pregnant woman."

I didn't know you could have the placenta turned into pills. I wonder how much that costs? Probably a lot more than I could afford when I was pregnant.

It depends on who you work with. My doula is going to do it for me and i wad abke to barter with her. Her usual rate is 175$ and you get a bunch of pills.

That's cheaper than I thought it would be. I was expecting it to be in the thousands.

Not around here. I know things like doula services are more expensive on the west coast then where i am in minnesota. I would assume placental encapsulation wiukd be more too depending where you live. I know some doulas or people who do things like this are more open to bartering goods or services you could provide so that can help a lot with cost.

Honestly, turning it into pills sounds like a good idea. I'd do it.

Same. I don't think I could eat it like a steak, but pills sounds alright.

Its a fairly easy process too. I know you end up with a ton of pills so stuffing the capsules by hand is time consuming but they make little machines that do it for you so it goes quicker. Im stuffing my own but thats only because i have a huge pack of gel caps laying around already. My doula will take care of the rest of the process though.

Same

That's not bad at all. I'd do it if I ever got pregnant again.

the only question that I have is what is she planning to mix the placenta with in order to make the capsules? I'm sure it's all organic stuff, but that would be my biggest concern.

And hey, some people drink a placenta smoothie after birth, so pills seem pretty tame in comparison.

Idk if this id how all people work so if you were to do it youd want to talk to the person doing it. Ihavent met with my doula yet, i actually meet her in a week, but when she mskes the capsules she uses various herbs, dries it in her oven, chops/grinds it into a fine powder and uses empty capsulrs from the local cop-op. I have my own capsules from a different health food store, i only needed a few and they came in a huge pack of 300.
When i meet with her next week ill get more details. I know she also offers to mske smoothies and "bloody mary" type drinks. Right now im just learning what i csn via google and reputable sources and my local "hippie" mom group. :) i definitely recommend anyone keep an open mind when it comes to pregnancy/parenting topics, simply because you never know how your own perceptions will change. I know for me certain ideas and topics that i never would have or even been open to are now things im doing! (*you/your are just general terms not you specficially)

In other things i love your icon! Is it specifically from six feet under or is just a different lauren project?

they basically dry it like jerky, ground it, then put it into gel capsules.

You can also use your placenta to make a custom teddy bear, if you want it around forever~
