Joan Rivers Hits Out At Oscar Winner Adele With Fat Jokes - Again

Letterman asked the American television personality what it was like attending Sunday’s Academy Awards, she described it as “a lot of new faces on a lot of old bodies”.

Rivers said she met the British songbird, for the first time, at the Oscars.

“What is her song? Rolling in the deep?” Joan asked. “She should add fried chicken!”

Joan then joked she overheard Adele moaning, “My throat, my throat, I don’t know if I can swallow! I said, ‘Oh, yeah — you can swallow!’”Joan hit back.

However it’s not the first time Rivers has teased the 'Set Fire to the Rain' singer about her weight. When Adele gave birth to her first baby last October, Joan tweeted, @Joan_Rivers: "Congratulations to Adele on the birth of her 68 pound 8 ounces bouncing baby boy." Ouch!

After Adele's music success this season, the mum-of-one is said to be keen on having another child within two years with partner Simon Konecki according to The Daily Star.

A source revealed, "Adele has been telling her friends that she is ready to try for another baby. She loves being a mum and wants two kids to grow two years apart.

LOL seriously?! I mean there's people out there who can literally do nothing to change the fact that they're infertile and all she had to do was gain 5 pounds? And she still wouldn't and was all "awwwww woe is meeee I can't conceeeive"? I think if I roll my eyes further I'll get a headache.

her low weight wasnt the cause of her infertility, and she did in fact gain some weight while she was trying.

Here's an article from just a few months ago:

http://www.showbizspy.com/article/253213/giuliana-rancic-wont-gain-weight.html

GIULIANA Rancic insists she won’t use her baby as an excuse for gaining weight.

The TV host — who who welcomed son Edward Duke with her husband Bill via a surrogate two months ago — won’t become a wife who didn’t want to be “sexy for her husband” just because she had a child.

“I’m trying to wrap my mind around how to juggle work and a baby,” she said.

“I fear [that] I’m going to be one of those women that has a baby, and the next thing I know, I’m walking around all day with a side ponytail, eating chips and wearing flip-flops and not wanting to be sexy for my husband.

“I don’t want the baby to be an excuse.”

Rancic recently revealed she’d like to have another baby.

“We need some brothers or sisters for Duke,” Giuliana said. “I can make him smile … he has the cutest baby laugh ever, and when he smiles, my heart skips a beat.

“We’d like to go down the surrogacy path again — I’m on medication for the next four-and-a-half years. Thankfully, before I went on the medicine, we did another round of IUVF so we have embryos ready to go..

“People have asked me so many questions about my surrogacy, and I’m proud to show the process.”

She legitimately has an ED issue that's not being addressed.

ummmm did you read the article? she's talking about not becoming ~sloppy (which is problematic in and of itself but i digress) and gaining weight after the birth of her son (who was born via surrogate), not about gaining weight IN ORDER to conceive.

maybe she has ED issues, maybe she doesnt, that's not really my place to assess tbh, but she did try gaining a bit of weight in order to try to conceive, before ultimately going the surrogate route after IUI/IVF/etc failed. this interview is post her son's birth.

Yes, I did. I know it wasn't about fertility in this case, but what I'm saying is that these statements all add up to someone who has a serious issue with body image.
blue_kimono 27th-Feb-2013 05:27 pm (UTC)
so your default response to someone who has a serious issue with body image is, in your words, "fuck this bitch"?

k.

No, I think she was making a mockery of the infertility issue by acting as though all she needed to do was gain 5 pounds, but tee hee her job is looking hot, so she just can't do it!

blue_kimono 27th-Feb-2013 05:34 pm (UTC)
you're just talking about something you know nothing about because she never made light of or a mockery of her infertility issues, in fact she often referenced wanting to get pregnant very badly on the fashion police and displayed a great deal of heartbreak regarding her infertility on her reality show.
shadowpiranha 27th-Feb-2013 05:15 pm (UTC)
Hence why I was asking, thanks for confirming one way or the other.
sarahvma 27th-Feb-2013 05:17 pm (UTC)
Initially she said she "couldn't," though, citing her job as the reason.
sarahvma 27th-Feb-2013 05:14 pm (UTC)
Well, the irony is that we'll never know. The doctors wanted her to gain 5 pounds just to see if that could be a factor, because they reminded her several times that she was dangerously underweight, particularly for the purposes of conception.

It's possible she still had other issues, but she wasn't even willing to try, because she claimed that even 5 or 10 pounds would be unacceptable by E!'s standards.

So you can blame E! for wanting its correspondents to be unhealthy, but the truth is that Guiliana has always been the thinnest rep they have, so it sounded like eating disorder BS to me.

My friend's aunt had that problem in order to keep a baby. She conceived but was very distinctly warned that she was too underweight and she could have a miscarriage way more easily if she didn't gain weight. The kicker is she's actually, naturally, one of those extremely skinny people and doesn't take good care of herself (drinks a lot, doesn't eat much) so it was a real wake-up call for her and everybody was scared there for a minute. I think she's safe now though, it's been at least 6 months!

Might be both. I know over here they make no secret of ordering actresses and presenters to lose weight if they want to keep on air, and they always invariable end up looking like lollipops. :(
sarahvma 27th-Feb-2013 05:23 pm (UTC)
That's terrible -- but it's not like she "meant" to do it.

My boyfriend's sister is actually overweight, but very self-conscious about it, and refused to gain while she was pregnant with her third child. The doctor repeatedly told her that she had to gain at least 15-20 pounds and she actively starved herself and smoked the whole time.

Her son is about 5 now, weighs around 35 pounds and is both much shorter and much smaller than nearly every kid his age. His skin seems really thin/overly pale and you can see the big blue veins in his head constantly.

It's horrible.

And, in the meantime, she's probably gained another 30 pounds since giving birth. So good work there, chief.
shadowpiranha 27th-Feb-2013 05:26 pm (UTC)
She was really very happy about it, it was the lifestyle adjustment that took some work.

Aww man. Smoking during a pregnancy...nooo! My mom's a chimney and she quit when she got pregnant with me and I was still born with all kinds of issues (stuff she says I "took" from her because I am constantly sick and she hasn't caught a cold/flu since) I can't imagine if she'd kept on! Poor baby. :(

WELL THEN WELL DONE TO HER.
