Jennifer Lawrence Forgot To Thank Some People

Best Actress Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence was the talk of the town at Sunday night’s awards after her bumpy walk to the stage and her candid acceptance speech made headlines. But she forgot to thank two people critical to the making of Silver Linings Playbook — director David O. Russell and producer Harvey Weinstein. Below, she shares her thanks to them in a statement released to EW:

"In the whirlwind of last night, I was remiss to thank two incredibly important people to this film and in my life.

David O. Russell: Thank you for the most incredible experience of my life. Thank you for your genius, for your guidance, for teaching me things about myself and nurturing me to be a better actor. You have so much passion and such a bleeding heart, you believe not only in your films but what your films can do for people and that is the most important thing that I have learned from you.

Harvey Weinstein: You championed this movie and its story from early days. Your passion and unyielding support gave this film the opportunity to thrive and touch so many people.

Thank you to both. I will never be able to forgive myself for such a brain fart but I hope that you both can. Obviously it was not on purpose, I couldn’t remember what I had already said and my mind went completely blank–your brain does funny things during the most overwhelming moment of your life!
"

mystickiwi 26th-Feb-2013 10:41 pm (UTC)
David O Russel doesn't deserve thanks even if he did direct the movie.

I also feel like this is still less of a faux pas than when say, Julia Roberts forgot to thank the person who's life her movie was based on.
goddlesssinner 26th-Feb-2013 10:41 pm (UTC)
DOR shots of her have to be the most creepy shots ever done in the history of movies
superhetoric 26th-Feb-2013 11:35 pm (UTC)
have you ever seen that movie elizabeth olsen was in, whatever marcy may marlene? that film is the creepiest. the camera objectifies the shit out of her, it's awful.

Just another reason why Hilary Swank is a class act TBH
imnotasquirrel 26th-Feb-2013 11:04 pm (UTC)
lmao yes

david o. russell deserves nothing in life.

Has Hathaway's Valentino apology been posted?
overprotected 26th-Feb-2013 10:42 pm (UTC)
i don't think so

what happened?
goddlesssinner 26th-Feb-2013 10:45 pm (UTC)
she was suppose to wear Valentino but found out Amanda was wearing something similar and changed for that crappy Prada
magicalsibylle 26th-Feb-2013 10:48 pm (UTC)
I don't know if the apology part is a joke or not (I haven't heard of that) but Valentino sent a press release before the ceremony explaining that she was going to wear one of their gowns (similar to what Amanda Seyfrield wore) and she ended up wearing a Prada gown at the last minute. Award outfits are obviously planned in advance and the fact that she switched like that is particularly noticeable seeing as a lot of the focus has been on her. If you ask me, had a non-nominated actress worn something that wasn't planned, nobody would have noticed.
dance_electro 26th-Feb-2013 10:42 pm (UTC)
ew @ weinstein and russell in general

I agree, OP. I thought the two people would be her parents, or did she thank them?
overprotected 26th-Feb-2013 10:49 pm (UTC)
I honestly can't remember - I remember her thanking her "team" and the four other actors and saying happy birthday to Emannuelle thats about it
juliesaracen 26th-Feb-2013 10:49 pm (UTC)
She thanked her family iirc.
krisgonn 26th-Feb-2013 10:50 pm (UTC)
I think she may have said something about her family in general. Not totally sure though.
the_pinkdress 27th-Feb-2013 12:59 am (UTC)
yeah i remember she said, "and thank you to my family" in a flustered way. no one really got a 'big' thank you, she just kind of rattled off a couple things and walked off.
sandvich 26th-Feb-2013 10:42 pm (UTC)
Brain fart is a terrible phrase.
cringinglove 26th-Feb-2013 10:49 pm (UTC)
It's one of those terms I just can't deal with, idk why.. like the word "nugget" (omg even typing it is horrible)
isolatemyheart 26th-Feb-2013 11:22 pm (UTC)
i tried to stop cursing and ended up coming up with my own... butt nuggets was one of them (fudge knuckles a close second). people are definitely more offended by fake curses than real ones, lol.
duchello 27th-Feb-2013 02:33 am (UTC)
omg I love the word nugget, I use it as a term of endearment, like "look at that cute little nugget'
sixdemonhag 27th-Feb-2013 05:50 pm (UTC)
I don't mind "nugget". However, I hate "niblet" and "riblet". I also HATE "sippy cup".
georgiana08 26th-Feb-2013 11:46 pm (UTC)
It really is horrible.
gabrieldreams 26th-Feb-2013 10:42 pm (UTC)
The statement starts off so professionally then turns into something you could actually imagine her saying by the last paragraph.
overprotected 26th-Feb-2013 10:43 pm (UTC)
ikr it started off like typical PR jargon and then by the end of it sounded like a transcript from a talk show
catelyn_tully 26th-Feb-2013 10:43 pm (UTC)
I'm so fucking sick of her
theantipoet 26th-Feb-2013 10:43 pm (UTC)
idk, the Oscars would be so much more watchable if the acceptance speeches weren't just a list of random names.
kwikimart 26th-Feb-2013 10:46 pm (UTC)
IA

You're gonna see all those people later on in the night/the next day

I think it's just PR for the people they work for

"LOOK WHO GOT ME HERE AND COULD GET YOU UP HERE TOO"

goddlesssinner 26th-Feb-2013 10:47 pm (UTC)
they actually tell the nominees not to thank their agents and managers and basically, people who the audience would not recognise, but they never obey lol
_underwhelmed 26th-Feb-2013 11:00 pm (UTC)
seriously. you have a minute or two in front of millions and the best thing you can say is 'thank you to my agent and lawyer and pr team!'
morgan90 26th-Feb-2013 10:43 pm (UTC)
The first thing I noticed about her speech is that she didn't thank Weinstein. Hope she enjoys never working in Hollywood ever again
moddchicc 26th-Feb-2013 10:44 pm (UTC)
LOL
goddlesssinner 26th-Feb-2013 10:49 pm (UTC)
You bet that's the reason why she wrote this lol
zurbraran 26th-Feb-2013 10:52 pm (UTC)
Lawrence's family hasn't been seen since Oscar night. I'm guessing that Weinstein was holding them hostage until that statement got released.
rheya_kelvin 26th-Feb-2013 10:53 pm (UTC)
Lol, Jennifer actually made that exact joke.
moddchicc 26th-Feb-2013 10:43 pm (UTC)
I thought her birthday shout out to Emmanuelle Riva was cute, lol
overprotected 26th-Feb-2013 10:44 pm (UTC)
it was

it was like she was trying to think of what else she was supposed to say and that was all that came to mind so then she left lolll
browniecakemix 27th-Feb-2013 12:31 am (UTC)
mte, I'm still pressed Emmanuelle didn't win but JLaw's speech was nothing short of adorable tbh
ljubavirakija 26th-Feb-2013 10:44 pm (UTC)
ew @ weinstein and russell in general

MTE.
ronnie_luvs_u 26th-Feb-2013 10:44 pm (UTC)
totally understandable.
ljubavirakija 26th-Feb-2013 10:44 pm (UTC)
So, what is the ONTD consensus: did she deserve the Oscar for her performance in "SLP"?
kwikimart 26th-Feb-2013 10:45 pm (UTC)
No

Don't ask anyone else, mine is the only opinion that matters ;p
mellarks 26th-Feb-2013 10:46 pm (UTC)
I love her and thought her performance was wonderful, but no. She didn't.

I'm happy for her that she did win, but I don't think she deserved it compared to the others. I was rooting for Riva.
goldengal1193 26th-Feb-2013 10:47 pm (UTC)
No, but she did deserve to win one for Winter's Bone.

morgan90 26th-Feb-2013 10:55 pm (UTC)
Even if that is true (and I'm not saying it is or isn't) she's way too green to already be getting career/consolation Oscars.
consie 26th-Feb-2013 11:27 pm (UTC)
Just like when Russell Crowe won an Oscar for Gladiator. IMO, he really should have won it for A Beautiful Mind.

I think aside from Naomi (sorry girl) they all did wonderful jobs and any one of them would have deserved the win

so yes, and no. I think she was deserving but I don't think she was MORE deserving than Riva or Chastain.

nicolaroberts 26th-Feb-2013 10:48 pm (UTC)
no, she was much better in winter's bone
goddlesssinner 26th-Feb-2013 10:50 pm (UTC)
No
rheya_kelvin 26th-Feb-2013 10:50 pm (UTC)
Based on merit, Riva should have won.

However I think her performance was on level with Naomi and Jessica so, if not Riva, why not her?

Edited at 2013-02-26 10:51 pm (UTC)
fauxkaren 26th-Feb-2013 10:50 pm (UTC)
No.

She's a very talented actress, but I think Emmanuelle River (and Quvenzhane Wallis tbh) gave a better performance.

abcdlovelife 26th-Feb-2013 10:52 pm (UTC)
she was the weakest out of all the nominees this year imo
vvalerie123 26th-Feb-2013 10:54 pm (UTC)
No. She only won because Harvey was pushing for her hard but everybody in the film acted circles around her imo (bradley, deniro etc). Not oscar worthy at all.
genbu_no_miko24 26th-Feb-2013 10:54 pm (UTC)
It was nice film, but the movie in general didn't really merit the Oscar noms.

i haven't seen the other movies so i don't really know comparatively, but i think her performance was oscar worthy. just because it wasn't flashy doesn't mean it wasn't superb
sodenoshirayuki 26th-Feb-2013 11:01 pm (UTC)
hella to the fucking no

she wasn't even the best thing about the movie
_underwhelmed 26th-Feb-2013 11:01 pm (UTC)
SLP was the only movie nominated in that category that i saw but i didnt enjoy it and i did not think she was that good at all. i wanted to turn off SLP immediately after it started, i thought it was fucking awful

Edited at 2013-02-26 11:02 pm (UTC)
hannahstarr 26th-Feb-2013 11:02 pm (UTC)
Haven't seen SLP but I don't know anyone who has seen it and thinks she's more deserving than some of the other actresses nominated in that category. I also can't imagine her being better than Riva who was FLAWLESS in Amour.

I've only seen SLP, ZD30 and The Impossible.

Jessica did better in her film, but Jen was very very nearly as good and she had more to do- so yeah she should have won.

ill_bitch 27th-Feb-2013 01:20 am (UTC)
Nope, Riva in Amour was far more remarkable. Watts and Riva had more challenging roles, Jen's was kind of safe. Very few actresses could have done what Watts and Riva did, which is why their performances were more indelible. Watts wasn't shown a lot in the second half of the film, so I would have given it to Riva.

Riva was riveting and was far better than Lawrence, who was good, too.
deltabean 27th-Feb-2013 01:58 am (UTC)
YES
madonna 27th-Feb-2013 05:02 am (UTC)
Honestly? I think she deserved it. Now, I haven't seen all the movies except SLP and Beasts of the Southern Wild, so maybe Jessica or Riva deserved it a bit more.. but I thought Jennifer deserved it because she put so much into it. HAVING SAID THAT, Bradley should gotten more recognition because I thought he was a flop ass pretty boy actor until I saw that movie and he impressed me. He really should have gotten something.

Edited at 2013-02-27 05:03 am (UTC)
lexy_ 27th-Feb-2013 05:45 am (UTC)
Absolutely not. She was the weakest nominee and the weakest actor in that movie. And this is NOT a make up for Winter's Bone. She was good in that (only time I've ever been impressed with her acting), but not better than anyone else nominated that year - yes even Natalie Portman.
