Her hair styling may not have worked out, but her YouTube video of it is a big hit! Tori told Ellen the story behind her viral video sensation.

this vid both annoyed me and made me sad. like something about this girl who clearly doesn't know what she's talking about but thinks she is/desperately wants to be some hair "expert" that can make tutorial vids... idk for some reason it's like a symbol of everything wrong /w/ the coming generation.

i'm surprised you're not more upset, tabatha.
judgmental 26th-Feb-2013 07:00 pm (UTC)
everybody wants to be a makeup guru on youtube

it's the new "i want to be a dj" lbr
dothecrunge 26th-Feb-2013 07:06 pm (UTC)
ia tbh. I don't want to take any hair or makeup tips from 13 year olds
scheisse 26th-Feb-2013 07:09 pm (UTC)
Where does she say she wants to be and/or thinks she is some hair expert? Most of these girls do this shit for fun, damn. Get a hobby and maybe you won't feel so bitter.
noon 26th-Feb-2013 07:10 pm (UTC)
i agree
aquaricom 26th-Feb-2013 07:17 pm (UTC)
I see what you mean, and I agree. Theres a difference between making art, and then making something like tutorials, a medium where you can be held way more accountable for bad advice.
mingemonster 26th-Feb-2013 08:43 pm (UTC)
She's thirteen years old

Geo isn't necasqarily a beauty guru(more like a regular youtuber), but she's gorgeous so.....

Basically anyone who isn't super bubbly and annoying(like JuicyStar and NikkiPhillipi)

juicystar makes me want to kill myself. her and her sister, jfc.

i hate haul videos. they're literally pointless (unless you're one of those style gurus and are making a lookbook video on the pieces you bought).
serenedawn Re: Favorite youtube gurus26th-Feb-2013 07:22 pm (UTC)
I really like Claire
joinmymisery Re: Favorite youtube gurus26th-Feb-2013 07:25 pm (UTC)
My favorites are the young ones I've noticed like hairodynamic, teenmakeuptips, hautebrilliance, lolufullyloaded, beautybaby44, sweetbeautyx, megahnrossete, etc etc that group of friends, mostly because I love their friendships
degele Re: Favorite youtube gurus26th-Feb-2013 07:32 pm (UTC)
i love andreaschoice. i don't even like her tutorials or her style, i just like watching her. we could be bffs, lol.
goldengal1193 Re: Favorite youtube gurus26th-Feb-2013 10:36 pm (UTC)
She's hilarious
ehhhhnotreally Re: Favorite youtube gurus26th-Feb-2013 09:21 pm (UTC)
leighannsays and emilynoel83 are my favorites
xtinkerbellax Re: Favorite youtube gurus26th-Feb-2013 09:57 pm (UTC)
I have yet to find a girl whose style I can relate to. They all shop at F21 and dress so generic. IDK I wish these girls in their mid twenties would gear their videos to girls their own age instead of 15 year olds.
her_historia Re: Favorite youtube gurus26th-Feb-2013 11:13 pm (UTC)
I tend to watch Jenn's videos because she keeps it concise. I can't stand when a YouTuber gets so freaking wordy and starts rambling.
lumosofmylife 26th-Feb-2013 06:55 pm (UTC)
I love how she says, "I'm teaching you how to curl my hair."
pink_dog 26th-Feb-2013 07:18 pm (UTC)
Lol
I hadn't noticed, but yeah--that is funny
wasteyourlife 26th-Feb-2013 06:56 pm (UTC)

Lately I've been wearing a sock bun and taking it out to get the most perfect curls. At first I was afraid you'd see the sock, but if you do it right, it's really simple.
nymphadoratonks 26th-Feb-2013 07:00 pm (UTC)
i have super crazy curly hair and i tried to use a big soft thick sock to get some big waves in my hair for once. nope.
thebloomroom 26th-Feb-2013 07:14 pm (UTC)
ya none of these tips work for people with actual wavy/curly hair lol
ceecile 26th-Feb-2013 08:04 pm (UTC)
Read as "big soft thick cock" twice before I saw my mistake.
amor143x 26th-Feb-2013 07:02 pm (UTC)
i loooove mine. but how do you get curls out of yours??
sillyboho 26th-Feb-2013 07:05 pm (UTC)
if i treated my hair like that i'd be bald.
ohkimosabe 26th-Feb-2013 07:11 pm (UTC)
ugh i wish i looked good in a sock bun.
sugary_placenta 26th-Feb-2013 07:12 pm (UTC)
i must have the wrong socks because i can never do this.
coconutoil 26th-Feb-2013 07:37 pm (UTC)
I'm so amazed that people are on this sock bun thing again. It was huge when I was in in middle school (late 90s/early 2000s)
hockeygrl125 26th-Feb-2013 07:01 pm (UTC)
i finally get to see this video! omg hilarious.
washable 26th-Feb-2013 07:01 pm (UTC)
She's so adorable!!
scheisse 26th-Feb-2013 07:02 pm (UTC)
Just her utter shock and disbelief that she burned her hair off was what got me.
natalitabonita 26th-Feb-2013 07:02 pm (UTC)
once I had my hair straightened permanently and when I did the "re-touch" same thing happened to me, a tiny chunk of hair just fell off, good thing it was easy to hide
burn_a_miracle 26th-Feb-2013 07:15 pm (UTC)
It happened to me when I was blowdrying my hair one time
brucelynn 26th-Feb-2013 07:02 pm (UTC)
Lol that happened to me before but it was with a hot comb hahaha , my bangs were tore up so I them shorter so my mom wouldn't find out lol
judgmental 26th-Feb-2013 07:03 pm (UTC)
any good hair/makeup artists on youtube tho? I'm sick of these kids with a CVS rewards card that think they know shit

I need a good blush/contouring tutorial for super light skin

sugary_placenta 26th-Feb-2013 07:13 pm (UTC)
lisa elderidge and goss are the only ones i follow now. they're legit makeup artists (at least lisa is). also, lisa has two vids on the history of makeup that was pretty fascinating.

She's my makeup goddess (and replied to me on twitter so I will love her forever).

pixiwoo or Lisa Eldridge

rickmansvoice 26th-Feb-2013 07:35 pm (UTC)
pixiwoo are the only ones I really follow. They're so beautiful, funny and talented, (and legit makeup artists) plus they update a few times a week if you follow their two channels.

One of them has a makeup brushes line too, Real Techniques, which I haven't tried but everyone says they're excellent.
mydogfred 26th-Feb-2013 07:03 pm (UTC)
i can't watch this, i'd have nightmares lol
judgmental 26th-Feb-2013 07:07 pm (UTC)
lol my friend in HS burnt her entire forehead and was walking around everywhere with one of those nike headbands

it was hilarious
sugary_placenta 26th-Feb-2013 07:17 pm (UTC)
i did that in middle school with a cheap metal-type iron from walgreens. :(
vonlisbon 26th-Feb-2013 07:27 pm (UTC)
In the rare instance that I use a curling iron, I burn myself in the SAME DAMN SPOT every time and it looks exactly like a hicky :(
lumosofmylife 26th-Feb-2013 07:04 pm (UTC)
There was a video I watched a while back of a brunette girl who was tried to cut her own hair and totally fucked it up and was crying and shit. I wish I could remember where it was.
sugary_placenta 26th-Feb-2013 07:18 pm (UTC)
why do people upload that? i would be mortified.
lumosofmylife 26th-Feb-2013 07:23 pm (UTC)
I *think* the person who uploaded that video was her sister.
___heyvanity 26th-Feb-2013 07:05 pm (UTC)
This girl seems harmless and I'm surprised by all the "fake" and strange comments this post is getting.

I actually reacted the same way she did. Mouth open, sort of in disbelief. Haha.

I thought she was going to burn herself or something and was like "omg I can't watch this."

I use a straightener to curl my hair but now I'm nervous.
heart_iswild 26th-Feb-2013 08:12 pm (UTC)
same. ontd has become really exhausting in the last year or 2. like that shit was obviously real
ohkimosabe 26th-Feb-2013 07:05 pm (UTC)
i put hair spray on my hair before i straighten it and tops keep it on one spot for like 10 seconds. my hair is thick so its never really straight until i sleep on it and the next day it's good. I usually straighten my hair before bed which is weird lol.
