Seth MacFarlane, Oscars Host? Never Again, Says Showrunner

There won't be another Seth MacFarlane Oscars.

The "Family Guy" showrunner hosted Sunday's Academy Awards, but said he will not take the job again. MacFarlane wrote on Twitter that there was "no way" he would host another Oscars (see below). He did say, however, that it was "lotta [sic] fun to have done it."

The telecast climbed to a strong 40.3 million viewers on Sunday, the biggest audience in three years.

MacFarlane has said he wouldn't host again before. In pre-show interviews, he admitted to being exhausted and feeling overworked.

"Who knows how this will go," he said. "Even if it goes great, I just don't think that I could do this again. It's just too much with everything else that I have to do. I'm happy to be doing it and I will be thrilled to have done it, assuming I get out of there in one piece, but I really think this is a one-time thing for me."

Though some said he put on a competent show, MacFarlane was knocked for his misogynistic undertones in a number of his jokes and bit pieces. "We Saw Your Boobs," a song from the opening of the show, was dinged as particularly base -- especially since a number of the actresses mentioned in the songs were portraying rape victims in the movies in which they disrobed. (That was hardly the only criticism, though. For a recap of jokes that fell flat, check out our earlier coverage.)

Do the same people actually produce the Oscars year?

I'd like to see DanRad host at some point.
aredhela 26th-Feb-2013 06:08 pm (UTC)
yeah give him a few years and he'd be amazing
mynamehere07 26th-Feb-2013 06:13 pm (UTC)
ia. DanRad will be an awesome host in 10-15 years. I think right now people still closely associate him with Harry Potter.
burn_a_miracle 26th-Feb-2013 06:26 pm (UTC)
This. I think he still needs to established outside of HP. I mean, when Seth introduced him he was referenced as the boy wizard or something.
genbu_no_miko24 26th-Feb-2013 06:13 pm (UTC)
Aww Danrad would be qt.

shadowfax 26th-Feb-2013 08:38 pm (UTC)
I think he should host asap. It would definitely be something different for a change with a younger host.
amsterdam__ 26th-Feb-2013 08:50 pm (UTC)
I'd love to see Melissa McCarthy and Amy Poehler or Melissa and Kirsten Wiig or Melissa and Sandra Bullock, idk. give me Melissa.
fabouluz 26th-Feb-2013 06:07 pm (UTC)
They should have Amy and Tina, or go old school with Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy.
sweet_honesty 27th-Feb-2013 01:51 am (UTC)
Steve Martin would be an excellent choice.

larrylurker 26th-Feb-2013 06:54 pm (UTC)
The Oscars are long enough already without Fallon laughing at himself for 3 plus hours.
la_petite_singe 26th-Feb-2013 07:05 pm (UTC)
HERE FOR THIS! I ♥ him.
crashh_world 26th-Feb-2013 07:54 pm (UTC)
He was a good VMA host lol
tragickingdomxo 26th-Feb-2013 09:02 pm (UTC)
Absolutely, I still watch the opening he did for the VMAs
tiarlynn 26th-Feb-2013 09:44 pm (UTC)
but i thought the goal was to stop having awkward and unfunny hosts
emologues 26th-Feb-2013 06:08 pm (UTC)
i'm tired of all these middle aged male hosts.

bring in tina and amy, they were great at the GGs.
merwild 26th-Feb-2013 06:55 pm (UTC)
Well said. Except Hugh jackman, his energy was great.
Tina and Amy would be cool.
dirtyknife 26th-Feb-2013 07:11 pm (UTC)
I think those two should host ALL THE THINGS.
sherrilina 26th-Feb-2013 07:14 pm (UTC)
Yeah, Tina and Amy should have hosted THIS year, tbh. So on point.
ediesedgwick 26th-Feb-2013 06:08 pm (UTC)
Right

Just like Ricky Gervais was never invited back to the Golden Globes or whatever award show he hosted
davejohn 26th-Feb-2013 06:12 pm (UTC)
mte
_xxtom 26th-Feb-2013 10:33 pm (UTC)
Seth is the one saying he doesn't want to return. Not the Academy. So yes he might be invited back but he's just not interested.
yourlivewire 26th-Feb-2013 10:43 pm (UTC)
exactly what i said
superdogbiter 26th-Feb-2013 06:08 pm (UTC)
MY dog
her opening act would consist of her rolling over and sleeping
professor_chaos 26th-Feb-2013 06:08 pm (UTC)
Jimmy Kimmel.
ljubavirakija 26th-Feb-2013 06:09 pm (UTC)
Srsly. With all of his celeb connections, I'm surprised he hasn't hosted
goldengal1193 26th-Feb-2013 06:13 pm (UTC)
Yess he is fucking hilarious.

ialmrnt5 26th-Feb-2013 07:05 pm (UTC)
how the hell do you talk that long about that much stuff and still make it funny/make someone want to listen?
notoriousreign 26th-Feb-2013 06:09 pm (UTC)
"NOOOOOOO" - said nobody
moddchicc 26th-Feb-2013 06:09 pm (UTC)
I thought Andy Samberg was hysterical the night before hosting the Indie Spirit Awards. Halfway through the Oscars I was wishing he got that gig too, lol.
milkchokolate 26th-Feb-2013 06:13 pm (UTC)
Yes, Andy was hilarious.
sherrilina 26th-Feb-2013 07:15 pm (UTC)
OMG yes, and I bet he would make Digital Shorts and write actually funny, awesome songs about the nominees!!! I would love to see him host.
colorstoobright 26th-Feb-2013 08:33 pm (UTC)
andy was so good.
scootermcgaffin 26th-Feb-2013 06:10 pm (UTC)
I'd like JLaw and DanRad to do it. I feel like they'd play off each other really well.
aredhela 26th-Feb-2013 06:11 pm (UTC)
I love her, but she only seems like she could do it. She can't host/present anything, she just reads the prompter.
ljubavirakija 26th-Feb-2013 06:16 pm (UTC)
JLaw may be funny; but, she doesn't have comedic timing. Her SNL performance was awful. Even when she presented @ the Oscars, she was so stiff
scootermcgaffin 26th-Feb-2013 06:20 pm (UTC)
I tend to not judge people based on SNL since SNL in general is awful. She had great timing with the post-show interviews and when Jack Nicholson crashed it.
the_pinkdress 26th-Feb-2013 06:21 pm (UTC)
i don't think regular actors can do it, you have to be an ~entertainer~ or at least a comic who can handle what tina fey calls "flop sweat".
loveumbrella 26th-Feb-2013 07:57 pm (UTC)
DanRad would probably be flawless, but I don't believe JLaw is a good performer when she has to be herself if that makes any sense.
sweet_honesty 27th-Feb-2013 01:55 am (UTC)
She seemed way too nervous when she was presenting though
aredhela 26th-Feb-2013 06:10 pm (UTC)
Once was too much.
calinewarkwc69 26th-Feb-2013 06:10 pm (UTC)
The thing that bothers me the most is that they rehearse this shit for DAYS AND DAYS and it never occurred to ANYONE that they might need to edit some shit? Like really? I remember right before the hairy Kardashian joke, Seth was like "oop, I thought we cut this joke...? BUT OKAY."

I mean, who is making these decisions? It can't be Seth out there fighting alone for his right to be an asshat on a huge production that probably have about 20+ people who can say "don't so that."

Host next year: Tina & Amy were the consensus, yes?
professor_chaos 26th-Feb-2013 06:12 pm (UTC)
they are old white men who love his kind of jokes
asemic 26th-Feb-2013 07:21 pm (UTC)
They got people talking about a predictable ceremony. They knew what they were doing.
gillianinoz 26th-Feb-2013 10:48 pm (UTC)
I heard they rehearsed for five months...

arainymist 26th-Feb-2013 06:10 pm (UTC)

He would be great.
jaimelepink 26th-Feb-2013 06:30 pm (UTC)
