Genuinely disappointed at people not knowing who Little Edie was. What the hell. Nothing will beat the season two game. Anyway time for Untucked!

the native american headdress and the billy crystal examples are different because 1) the native american war bonnet is a very sacred cultural piece with significant cultural importance and 2) Billy Crystal had some pretty racist mannerisms attached to his impersonation.

You don't need to try and explain skin tone importance and privilege to me, I'm more than well aware of how that works in Latin America and in hispanic and spanish-speaking cultures around the world.

What you're not recognizing is the fact that Roxxxy naturally looks what you think is "three shades darker" when she gets some sunlight, and I've shown you photographic proof of that. Her mannerisms and expressions were not stereotypical of a woman of color, they were based off of Tamar's character (for christ's sake, she dropped that "get yo life" line like three times). I'd even say that Roxxxy wasn't even acting very differently than she usually does at other times. She was not in blackface tonight whatsoever, not physically or characteristically, and she was especially not on the level of racial insensitivity as seen in the examples you're trying to throw at me.

you're actually saying that over-photoshopped drag race promo photo is photographic evidence that roxxxy naturally tans that color? girl no, she is painted and wearing a shit ton of makeup all over her body in that photo
mikeblitzz 26th-Feb-2013 05:59 am (UTC)
and you're actually telling me that the picture of her out of drag as a boy means nothing to you? oh ok
peddlestools 26th-Feb-2013 06:02 am (UTC)
and he's still several shades lighter than what he paints himself as, so bye
mikeblitzz 26th-Feb-2013 06:06 am (UTC)

you want to hold onto this irrational anger of yours so bad lol. just let it go!
rctshack 26th-Feb-2013 06:22 am (UTC)
You are the correct one here. This person is fighting a pointless fight. He didn't paint himself any different than normal and he is the same shade of skin color out of drag.
mikeblitzz 26th-Feb-2013 06:27 am (UTC)
I'm even showing photographic evidence lol. It's obvious that Roxxxy tans outside of the competition and speaking as a latino male with the same complexion as Roxxxy, I'm laughing at how badly this other commenter wants to be right. She wasn't in blackface, she wasn't racist, and her act was 100% about being Tamar, not a stereotypically sassy black woman. She had Tamar's lines and mannerisms down and stuck to it.
adam_pally 26th-Feb-2013 08:26 am (UTC)
Your totally in the right here. I was actually relieved Roxxy didn't try doing blackface. This is why people don't take ONTD social justice warriors seriously, not everything is racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic,etc no matter how much they want they want it to be.
canuckgirl33 27th-Feb-2013 03:19 am (UTC)
whoever takes online social justice warriors seriously anyways?

I know I'm late on this but I always find it embarrassing when non-Latino PoCs try to talk about race in Latino culture as if it's completely analogous with their own racial history. It isn't, and it shows how ignorant they are and how little they care about our cultural differences.
rctshack 26th-Feb-2013 06:21 am (UTC)
We have had 5 episodes of him not being photoshopped on moving film to judge by. You are making something out of nothing. Look at the image below and tell me that is not the same skin color he always has which is a golden latin color. It matches his chest and hands. He didn't paint himself in black face, even if he did go a shade darker to represent the character.

What fight are you fighting for here?
bitchwhisperer 26th-Feb-2013 07:27 am (UTC)
girl u a mess in this thread
you talk about hispanic still 'being white'
and then you say that mikeblitzz is confusing ethnicity with race?
you can't possibly know Roxxxy's racial heritage, most latin americans are so mixed that they started referring to themselves as mestizos because most don't belong to any one group exactly. Plus, a lot of governments in the early 20th century fomented nationalistic sentiment by uniting the citizenry under the identity of 'mestizos.' As such, no matter what the color of their skin (pale to black), most latin americans will say that they are mestizos and are completely oblivious to their true racial background.
Yeah there was a large white migration to some countries in postcolonial times--creating majority white countries like Argentina, Chile and Uruguay--but most of their descendants have intermarried with the previous inhabitants. There aren't that many 100% white people in Latin America. The same process holds true for most of the descendants of black slaves brought to the continent during colonial times. Those not in remote settlements pretty quickly assimilated with the various racial groups already there. Now in countries like Peru and Mexico most people are completely unaware of the contribution that African slaves had on their 'Latin' culture, and even refute the possibility that they could well have black forebears.

ooh let em have it
avilewoman 28th-Feb-2013 08:44 pm (UTC)
This truth right here omg. Especially the "nationalistic sentiment" bit. Non-Latinos really don't get the relevance and importance of nationality in Latin American cultures and how that influences the way we see race.
