Anne Hathaway’s Awful Acceptance Speeches: An Annoying Look Back


Anne Hathaway has been everywhere this year for her award winning performance in Les Miserables — and it has been awful. For someone who is so talented and so aware she is going to win every award she is nominated for, this girl has been giving acceptance speeches that are getting worse and worse. And then, somehow, even worse.

So before she makes what will no doubt be the most painful speech of tomorrow’s Oscars, let’s take a look back at all these grating moments below. Just make sure you have a drink handy.

Then, let’s all pray that the more deserving Amy Adams will find herself at the podium tomorrow night.

The Critics Choice Awards, when it all began. Really Anne, telling people that just gave you an award that they spelled your name wrong? You are the WORST!

Golden Globe Awards, or when Hathaway tried to do Tina Fey. DON’T EVER TRY AND DO TINA FEY ANNE HATHAWAY.

Golden Globes part 2, when we learn the producers hate Anne and she grabs the mic like it’s a hot dick.

SAG Awards. Her most bearable speech, which is not really saying much.

BAFTAS, where no one likes Anne Hathaway. At all.

And finally, the Oscars…

I love Anne, but I was feeling a rush of secondhand embarrassment all throughout this award season from her speeches. She sounded too rehearsed and staged, even though she probably meant to come off genuine.

lol I remember someone on ONTD predicted that. They said they would probably show her singing as a clip and then she would go up on stage and say "I dreamed a dream and now it came true!" I forget who it was, but that's all I could think about as I listened/rolled my eyes

i don't know why people thought that was so cringe-worthy. i know she rehearsed her speech, but that doesn't mean the sentiment wasn't real.

lbr, Gemma and Rose are more talented and far less obnoxious. If Hathaway is taken down for this obnoxious awards season performance, it only opens the door for the two superior ivory brunette goddesses.

I don't think it's baiting at all. I adore Anne Hathaway, but her speeches have been pretty cringe-worthy all season. I figured I wouldn't be alone in that opinion, so I submitted it here.

thanking a list of names is the worst kind of acceptance speech. the people who helped you know that you appreciate them. i wish she had said something more genuine and meaningful. i mean we were all basically positive she was going to win and she should have prepared better.

ugh I had the most irritating lunch conversation with colleagues at work about the oscars in which

a) someone mentioned they didn't like my tweet about me being glad a POC won for best director when Ang Lee won because apparently that's "reverse discrimination" which I promptly told her that shit does not exist and she should never say it in front of me again

b) someone also mentioned they thought jlaw tripped on purpose, which I though was an ontd thing but apparently people are willing to vocalize such delusional and reaching statements actually in front of people

I don't understand the Jlaw conspiracy theories at all. Her skirt was huge, it must have been like trying to walk in heels with a duvet strapped around you.

TBH it's always really blown my mind that more women haven't tripped over the years.

I mean, when people act as though it's "obvious" Catherine Bigelow would win or Ang Lee, do they even realize what they're saying? Why would it be "obvious" that someone would win in a category dominated by white men?

her crying in the press room when someone asked her what she meant by that was way more irksome-- though overall, she was quite sweet in the press room.
