James Franco fumbles once more :-/


“Drivers … and Danica!!! … start your engines.”

With that unique command, actor James Franco ordered the 43 cars to fire up for the Daytona 500.

The duty is normally carried out with the most famous words in racing: “Gentlemen, start your engines.”

Of course, this year is different. Danica Patrick is the first woman to start from the pole in a Cup race, and Franco hinted beforehand that he was planning an audible. As unpredictable as ever, he passed on a chance to copy the command that was used when Patrick raced in the Indianapolis 500, “Lady and gentlemen, start your engines.”

i know some people will be like, "don't get bent out of shape about this!" but i still have no idea why she couldn't just be referred to as a driver like everyone else. shame that even though she's a professional in her sport, she can't be an equal due to a vagina.

it's called microaggressions for a reason. It's not a ~~huge~~ deal, but it remains unnecessary and tiring. Like, just keep it at "drivers".

Yeah idk... If he had said "Gentleman & Danica, start your engines" I think it would be cool, like promoting the fact that women are here and representing, take notice. But I guess since he said 'drivers & danica' its kind of grey and I might be reaching thinking its a good thing.

Even if he wasn't trying to be sexist, doesn't mean it wasn't. Was it? Like I said above, it's a microaggression. It's not overt or a huge affront, but it's just another way to differentiate and separated Danica from her peers solely on the basis of her gender, which ain't cute.

idk how many he has, but ashley benson (from pretty little liars) is totally sprung on him, which makes me just go, "...gurl." but it's been shown that she has flop taste anyway.

He was PERFECT on Freaks and Geeks. He was believable as James Dean in that biopic. He was a legitimately great and classy actor. Then he got arrogant and ruined it all.

I don't really watch NASCAR, but my sister does and she was watching yesterday. And to me it seemed like he put on a bit of an accent when he was being interviewed? Like I could have sworn I heard a bit of a twang that I don't normally hear from him.

YES!!!! You did! I know you did because I heard it too. Everything he did at Daytona was just so random. The drawl was probably his way of making fun of NASCAR's fans and the perception that they're a bunch of toothless hicks, but still, his very presence there was puzzling from beginning to end.
