Dear Readers,
On behalf of The Onion, I offer my personal apology to Quvenzhané Wallis and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the tweet that was circulated last night during the Oscars. It was crude and offensive—not to mention inconsistent with The Onion’s commitment to parody and satire, however biting.
No person should be subjected to such a senseless, humorless comment masquerading as satire.
The tweet was taken down within an hour of publication. We have instituted new and tighter Twitter procedures to ensure that this kind of mistake does not occur again.
In addition, we are taking immediate steps to discipline those individuals responsible.
Miss Wallis, you are young and talented and deserve better. All of us at The Onion are deeply sorry.
Sincerely,
Steve Hannah

That's generally how the majority of twitter feeds for major businesses and entities are run, though. It's usually just a couple of interns/junior staff members from PR or marketing.
i still trying to understand what was the point of that tweet, how anyone thought it was funny/a good idea, that didn't make sense at all. it was just plain disgusting. idek.
Satire my ass.
They are shitty
It still blows my mind that some asshole(s) thought it was a good idea to call a child a c-word. WTF.
A+ needs more than that.
It's definitely one of the better apologies of late anyway.
of course, for instance, jennifer lawrence flips off the press backstage and it's called endearing for it
but i'm happy this seems genuine
Just waiting til she says something racist. Then will get my popcorn and drink white tears.
What was the point of the tweet? Everyone gets that people can get nasty about actresses in Hollywood, there was no reason to make that point at QWallis's expense. That tweet, and the general shit that has been said about this little girl, left a bad taste in my mouth.
It's a joke.
Well Dakota Fanning was insulted as a kid too.
She does have an attitude problem tho.
Okay, but what is an acceptable age to call a child a c---? (HOW WE DON'T CALL ANYONE THAT EVER, HUH?)
When in reality this had more to do with basic decency than social justice. Just seems like common sense not to call a nine year old a c---. Especially publicly on what might be the biggest night of her life.
I used to like the Onion but i've lost a lot of respect for it now.
good apology, though.
no way people were gonna just let her just be a precocious, funny little kid who doesn't let people call her by a name that isn't her own either. nah, that sensitivity is reserved for the chloe moretzs and the abigail breslins of the world. none for quvenzhane or the smith brood.
WHAT THE FUCK?
God forbid a nine year old child have fun at an awards ceremony celebrating her achievements and stand up for herself when so-called journalists try to rename her.
LIKE OMG you're meant to be interviewing an individual with an unusual name - why would you not look up exactly how to pronounce it beforehand??
