Early Ratings: Oscars are Up from Last Year

Early indications are that Sunday's telecast of the Oscars on ABC was a strong ratings performer, with the overnight score up 4% from last year to a six-year high.

The Academy Awards averaged a 26.6 household rating/41 share in Nielsen's metered markets from 8:30 p.m. to midnight ET -- the best for the show since 2007 (27.7/42). Hosted by Seth MacFarlane, the Oscars surged above both 2012 (25.5/37) and 2011 (24.6/37) and was just a bit better than 2010 (26.5/40).

It also appears that ratings in the key 18-49 demographic are up over last year, though it won't be clear until later this morning when Nielsen issues time zone-adjusted preliminary nationals.

Thoughts on last night?

I caught the Boob song, and while I get what it was trying to accomplish (Seth trying to be self deprecating about his crass sense of humor), it was just so wrong and was completely tone deaf.

the boob song was the worstttt, I understand his whole shtick is very fart/poop/penis/immature humor but to me it felt like a 15 year old giggling because he saw a naked lady, I wish a female host could get away singing "I saw your dick" and idk, serenade Michael Fassbender or somebody

It didn't work because he actually went and sung the damn thing and ruined the self-deprecating part of the joke.

Last night pretty much cemented my opinion that Seth Macfarlane is a gross waste of blood and organs anyway.
