Early Ratings: Oscars are Up from Last Year

Early indications are that Sunday's telecast of the Oscars on ABC was a strong ratings performer, with the overnight score up 4% from last year to a six-year high.

The Academy Awards averaged a 26.6 household rating/41 share in Nielsen's metered markets from 8:30 p.m. to midnight ET -- the best for the show since 2007 (27.7/42). Hosted by Seth MacFarlane, the Oscars surged above both 2012 (25.5/37) and 2011 (24.6/37) and was just a bit better than 2010 (26.5/40).

It also appears that ratings in the key 18-49 demographic are up over last year, though it won't be clear until later this morning when Nielsen issues time zone-adjusted preliminary nationals.

Thoughts on last night?

I thought the 'random Nazi running out' bit was the only funny part. If someone had never seen The Sound of Music then wouldn't have gotten the joke.

I've seen that movie a million times and I didn't get what was happening until the Nazi came out. I for real thought there was going to be some kind of Sound of Music reunion lmao. I was so stoked. But then the Nazi came out and I was like "OH I GET IT NOW LOOOOOOOOL ILU"

I dunno I saw the movie once when I was maybe five and I'm almost thirty now so I didn't get the joke. I didn't even hear what was said tbh, so I didn't even know there was a sound of music joke, I just turned to look at the tv when somebody else was like why is there a nazi?
