Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos is not impressed with Silver Linings Playbook

Ahead of Silver Linings Playbook's big night at The Oscars, Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos - who has been living with bipolar disorder all his life - isn't all too pleased with the film's portrayal of mental illness.

Despite his misgivings of the topic in the film, he concedes that it's better for it to be discussed, rather than not at all:

I liked SLP a lot, but he he's obviously entitled to his opinion and I respect him so much for what he's been through <3

It pisses me off, too.

It is not funny to have the same thoughts over and over in your head and you can't stop them.

But hey, let's laugh at the people with the rituals because it's ridiculous and funny. HAHA

Ain't nothing funnier than someone dancing between the sidewalk cracks and turning around dented cans in the supermarket~~~~~~~~~~

Hollywood (and by extension, people) seriously don't understand what OCD is.

I just saw SLP, and re-thinking it, they portrayed OCD better than they usually do, but it's still "eh"...

I've also had OCD most of my life, and it bunched up with my emetophobia nearly killed me. You described perfectly above, "soul-destroying."

I've had OCD my entire life. The rituals ARE ridiculous. Thats why it pains me to do them. I know they're ridiculous, I just have to do them. It's agonizing and my childhood anguish was extremely painful, but I can laugh at it.

IA but I don't think it was played for laughs in this movie.
