Mila Kunis fronts ethical gemstone brand

Mila Kunis signs as the face and global ambassador for ethically sourced gemstone company, Gemfields

Black Swan star Mila Kunis has signed a new deal as global brand ambassador for precious stone specialist Gemfields.

The Hollywood actress has loaned her face to Gemfields's latest advertising campaign, photographed by renowned Italian fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti and styled by Anastasia Barbieri, AFP report.

The star's latest role as a young Theodora (later to become the Wicked Witch of the West) in upcoming movie Oz: The Great and Powerful sees her character heading to the emerald city, and life has once again copied art in the new campaign which features Kunis wearing one-of-a-kind emerald and ruby pieces created by Gemfields' designer partners including Alexandra Mor, Amrapali, and up-and-coming London jeweller, Dominic Jones. Also featured is famous Russian luxury brand Fabergé, which was acquired by Gemfields earlier this year.

Kunis recently toured Gemfields' Zambian mine, Kagem, which produces approximately 20 percent of the world's emeralds. "Mila has blown me away with her energy, enthusiasm and dedication," said Gemfields CEO Ian Harebottle. The actress was taken on tours of the company's environmentally-friendly mining practices and visited a number of Gemfields-sponsored community projects, among them schools and a farming cooperative.

"I truly believe in Gemfields' mission of ethical mining, and I absolutely have fallen in love with the rarity, beauty and history of emeralds," added Kunis.

London-based Gemfields is the world's leading colored gemstone producer, but this is the first time the company has hired a brand ambassador. The adverts are set to run around the world in publications including Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harper's Bazaar and W.

Gemfields is also revamping its website and will release a large-format print book on emeralds. The brand will unveil a collaboration with 37 international designers for an exclusive collection of colored gemstone jewelry on March 14 in London.

Born in the Ukraine, and raised in California, 29-year-old Mila Kunis is also the face of Dior's Miss Dior handbags.

16_bit_goddess 22nd-Feb-2013 03:22 pm (UTC)
lovely. I do love gemstones. I'm always buying myself jewelry and then never wearing it because I find it uncomfortable. I just like to look at it, really.
xdecadentx 22nd-Feb-2013 03:29 pm (UTC)
I've recently realised I feel weird if I don't wear rings.

Any other jewellery I don't like much.
fallengirl81 22nd-Feb-2013 04:57 pm (UTC)
I'm the same way. I love jewelry but I always fidget with it so I end up not wearing any because I'm afraid I'll break or lose it.
lovehimnot 22nd-Feb-2013 03:24 pm (UTC)
how could anyone be that beautiful!? lovely necklace too
imnotasquirrel 22nd-Feb-2013 03:25 pm (UTC)
ooh emeralds are my favorite. (only because they're my birthstone, tho)
xdecadentx 22nd-Feb-2013 03:33 pm (UTC)
My birthstone is Opal, I feel shafted.
imnotasquirrel 22nd-Feb-2013 03:36 pm (UTC)
idk, i think the shimmer on opals is really pretty. the only reason i wouldn't want an opal as my birthstone is because i associate it with bad luck haha.
tessselate 22nd-Feb-2013 07:35 pm (UTC)
opals are the best stone ever! i want an opal wedding ring :-)

I'm stuck with lame ass aquamarine.
helethmiel 22nd-Feb-2013 05:55 pm (UTC)
mine is pearl (or alexandrite, depending on who you ask). I can't even wear a pearl necklace without feeling like a goof :(

I LOVE that necklace, I wish I had the decolletage and the money
vonlisbon 22nd-Feb-2013 03:26 pm (UTC)
I am all for lab-made gem stones. (Depending on which type you get, as there are huge variations in quality/content) many of them are literally, chemically, exactly the same. The only difference is that one was dug out of the ground.
xdecadentx 22nd-Feb-2013 03:30 pm (UTC)
Yeah someone told me Carat* is really good about that, and there rings look fantastic, but they're still like £600, so still out of my budget.
vonlisbon 22nd-Feb-2013 04:31 pm (UTC)
After doing a bunch of research, my bf decided to go with Moissanite for the engagement ring. 1 carat round brilliant loose Moissanite is $250 to $300. 1 carat round brilliant loose diamond is going to be at least $2,500.

(diamond, moissanite, and asha [other brand synthetic] comparison)

I mean, if you stare at those three, can you notice some differences? Suuuure. Is anyone going to be lining my shit up and analyzing it for authenticity? Doubtful.
imnotasquirrel 22nd-Feb-2013 03:35 pm (UTC)
The only difference is that one was dug out of the ground.

Well, that and lab-made gem stones are generally a lot more affordable. Relatively speaking, anyway.
chiffanichan 22nd-Feb-2013 03:42 pm (UTC)
She looks amazing.

Love that color.
silly_izzy_me 22nd-Feb-2013 04:14 pm (UTC)
anyone know which big name jewelry designers to avoid because of questionable means of acquiring gemstones?
mmbien 22nd-Feb-2013 05:10 pm (UTC)
i love onyx and opal, but i just have an image in my head of people who wear turquoise and it's usually a dirty hippy sorry to say
dubiously 22nd-Feb-2013 06:16 pm (UTC)
My birthstone is ruby too, but it's totes my favorite.
axii 22nd-Feb-2013 08:34 pm (UTC)
I agree! My birth stone is diamond which I do like but I don't like how it was monopolized to be considered so special and rare when it really isn't. Plus every engaged/married woman is toting around the same tiffany setting which is so boring to me.

I ended up with a blue sapphire engagement ring but I considered aquamarine as a serious contender.
thetxbelle 22nd-Feb-2013 08:50 pm (UTC)
I love my diamond but its not for status as much as it goes with anything.
