NBC Sweeps: Network Falls to 5th Place In TV Ratings

More bad news for NBC: The one-time No. 1 network has fallen to fifth place in the Nielsen TV ratings during the important February sweeps period, according to Deadline.com.

Sweeps occurs four weeks each year, when networks inundate TV audiences with hairpin plot turns, tear-inducing weddings, jaw-dropping deaths and more major moments all in the hopes of giving their ratings a vital boost during the critical periods when Nielsen surveys the country's TV viewing habits.

The Peacock network started the TV season off strong with hits like "Revolution" and "The Voice" and even won November sweeps. But once those shows went into hiatus in November and December respectively, NBC's numbers quickly crumbled. Deadline reports that during the February sweeps period, NBC has averaged a 1.2 rating in the key 18-49 advertising demographic, while Univision has brought in a 1.5 rating. It's a far cry from NBC's reign at the top in November, which was the network's first time in the lead since 2003.

Oh NBC, it is a downward spiralCollapse )

I watched The New Normal this week and I liked it enough to watch it next week, but really the only things worth watching is Late Night With Jimmy and Parks&Rec. Which is sad because I loved Law&Order so much as well as The Office. I think they need to change the time slot for Deception too bc I can't even remember when that comes on. I kind of liked that show too.

one of NBC's mistakes was greenlighting "smart," cable-like sitcoms like Community and 30 Rock and letting them stink up the joint for years. then they finally catch a clue that those types of shows will never work and put on shit like Guys With Kids and Whitney. Horrible network.

I wonder how "making it 1997 again by science or magic" is working out for NBC.

lmao man I miss '30 Rock'.

Not bringing back "Revolution" until March is a stupid move.

Yes. I thought they would bring it in for Feb sweeps. I guess not. I don't watch it (Castle watcher here) but I thought it was a tactical error.

I don't watch NBC at all to be honest. I am just not interested in their shows.

It needs the lead in from The Voice.

well cbs and abc both made ~comebacks, but nbc is going to have to put together something that works soon or they might not ever recover tbh. they can't just keep relying on the voice.

I like to think it's karma for fucking Conan over.

Aw, this makes me sad. I see the complaints so I don't know how they're supposed to improve, but I still watch as much or more on NBC as I do on any of the other broadcast networks (5 or 6 shows right now), and have yet to be strongly wooed by anything cable offers.

Whats surprising about this 5th place finish is that CW has also been spiraling down. No show on that network gets 3 million and Arrow and TVD have also dropped.

Also when people celebrate NBC's demise keep in mind this also happened because they kept shows on the air that people wanted over the years

the Comcast curse is alive and well (yeah yeah I know they bought nbcuniversal but we all know this is just the beginning)
