The dog, oddly, was a key figure in an investigation into the death of McCready's longtime boyfriend, David Wilson. Wilson died from a gunshot wound on January 13, 2013. McCready told NBC that her dog found the bullet.
"I didn't find the bullet, the dog did. It was in the dog's mouth. I mean, that's a horrific things to say, but it was in the dog's mouth," she said in an interview following Wilson's death. There had been some speculation as to whether Wilson's death was a suicide or whether there was foul play involved. When asked if she killed her boyfriend, McCready told NBC, "Oh my God, no. He was my life, we were each others' life."
McCready had plans to honor Wilson's memory. "Some kind of foundation for people to donate in David's name, probably something having to do with music, a scholarship fund," she told "Dateline." "David loved music more than anything. And he desperately wanted his music to be heard."

While I obviously do not think it's a good idea for someone who is mentally ill to the point that they can't care for themselves to bring children into the equation, it's a huge human rights violation to target the mentally ill for active eugenics, especially when there are also many unfit parents who do not suffer from mental illness.
A better solution would be to make sure everyone has access to the healthcare, medication and reproductive services they need (speaking firsthand, I had to go off antidepressants a year ago because I just could not afford to keep taking them. I'm lucky that I have relatively mild depression and can sort of deal with it through lifestyle modification). See how that goes before you try and solve a rampant problem of unfit parents by taking it out on an already marginalized group in society.
