The dog, oddly, was a key figure in an investigation into the death of McCready's longtime boyfriend, David Wilson. Wilson died from a gunshot wound on January 13, 2013. McCready told NBC that her dog found the bullet.
"I didn't find the bullet, the dog did. It was in the dog's mouth. I mean, that's a horrific things to say, but it was in the dog's mouth," she said in an interview following Wilson's death. There had been some speculation as to whether Wilson's death was a suicide or whether there was foul play involved. When asked if she killed her boyfriend, McCready told NBC, "Oh my God, no. He was my life, we were each others' life."
McCready had plans to honor Wilson's memory. "Some kind of foundation for people to donate in David's name, probably something having to do with music, a scholarship fund," she told "Dateline." "David loved music more than anything. And he desperately wanted his music to be heard."

ODing while pregnant seems fairly extreme
Perhaps Mindy was a danger to herself and others. Where were her doctors? Where were her family and friends? Most mentally ill patients don't willingly walk into treatment centers and get help on their own.
And just a general side note not directed at anyone in particular. I don't think anyone should compare this to Sandy Hook shooting. They are two completely different incidents and I don't see how they're remotely comparable, even in the scope of mental illness.
She probably killed the dog because he had the bullet in his mouth from her husband. She probably didn't want the dog rummaging through her dead body too.
