Mindy McCready killed her dog before committing suicide

On Sunday, sources close to country singer Mindy McCready confirmed that the one-time chart-topper, who went on to appear on "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," committed suicide via self-inflicted gunshot on Sunday. Now, reports have surfaced that before McCready shot herself on her front porch, she shot her family dog. According to TMZ, neighbors reported hearing the two gunshots.

The dog, oddly, was a key figure in an investigation into the death of McCready's longtime boyfriend, David Wilson. Wilson died from a gunshot wound on January 13, 2013. McCready told NBC that her dog found the bullet.

"I didn't find the bullet, the dog did. It was in the dog's mouth. I mean, that's a horrific things to say, but it was in the dog's mouth," she said in an interview following Wilson's death. There had been some speculation as to whether Wilson's death was a suicide or whether there was foul play involved. When asked if she killed her boyfriend, McCready told NBC, "Oh my God, no. He was my life, we were each others' life."

McCready had plans to honor Wilson's memory. "Some kind of foundation for people to donate in David's name, probably something having to do with music, a scholarship fund," she told "Dateline." "David loved music more than anything. And he desperately wanted his music to be heard."

What the fucking shit @ people seriously making Mindy this untouchable victim as if HER CHILDREN are not the SOLE victims of her actions.

MINDY TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE WHILE PREGNANT WITH HER SON, SHE FORFEITED ANY BASIC HUMAN RIGHT TO SYMPATHY YEARS AGO.

I'm not even sorry, but go ahead and lecture me about mental illness. If you're that sick you shouldn't be having kids. Or dogs.

I don't think that means she forfeited any basic human right years ago. She had a history of substance abuse and mental illness. Even if she was diagnosed and receiving treatment for a mental illness there are a lot of medications that you can't even take when you're pregnant.

I think people in here are having a hard time differentiating sympathy from blame. IDK. I am sympathetic for the things she went through, but I still think she has the responsibility for her own actions. I've struggled with depression for the entirety of my life, and while being depressed absolutely was an excuse for being a cuntwaffle at times, it didn't actually excuse the behavior.

Tell us more about how people with mental illness should be forced to not have children or pets.

I agree with you. Mental illness sucks, but it's not a free pass for sympathy. These poor kids are now left without parents because they both decided to take their own lives. I don't care what peoples excuses are for legitimate reasons why they think it was ~out of her control~ to kill herself, but in the end, she did and these kids are the ones left, alone. I don't have a place in my heart for that choice she made.

ONTD really had this crazy notion that everyone is a victim and when someone is a victim, they did no wrong. It's sadly not the case a lot of the times. She was a victim to her own choices if anything. And the real victims are the children.

You do realize that sometimes people do not get better, right? And that these kids were already largely raised by others, not either parent? Her children were safe, and nowhere near. Don't bring the kids into this.

"but it's not a free pass for sympathy"

LMAO sympathy is not currency, there isn't a limited amount to go around and people don't hand in free passes to receive it. Her life sounds like it was a mess that she struggled through for years. Even if you don't agree with how her life ended, you should at the very least empathize with her because of the years of struggles that most people will never have to face.

I completely agree with all of this. I feel incredibly sad for her and I'm not entirely blaming her for her actions but the real victims are, as you said, her children and loved ones.

you live your life for you even regardless of kids as fucked up as that sounds. being mentally ill is embarrassing and i doubt she felt good wanting to kill herself..obviously

Honestly, I agree. I feel really sorry that her life was so tragic/sad that she felt she couldn't continue living any more, but I always feel much more sympathy for the friends/family around the person who committed suicide who not only tried to help her recover from her substance abuse issues but now have to deal with the emotional trauma of what she did. I think we can feel sorry for her life while without venerating her.

Thank you! I agree so, so much with this statement.
