Mindy McCready killed her dog before committing suicide

On Sunday, sources close to country singer Mindy McCready confirmed that the one-time chart-topper, who went on to appear on "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," committed suicide via self-inflicted gunshot on Sunday. Now, reports have surfaced that before McCready shot herself on her front porch, she shot her family dog. According to TMZ, neighbors reported hearing the two gunshots.

The dog, oddly, was a key figure in an investigation into the death of McCready's longtime boyfriend, David Wilson. Wilson died from a gunshot wound on January 13, 2013. McCready told NBC that her dog found the bullet.

"I didn't find the bullet, the dog did. It was in the dog's mouth. I mean, that's a horrific things to say, but it was in the dog's mouth," she said in an interview following Wilson's death. There had been some speculation as to whether Wilson's death was a suicide or whether there was foul play involved. When asked if she killed her boyfriend, McCready told NBC, "Oh my God, no. He was my life, we were each others' life."

McCready had plans to honor Wilson's memory. "Some kind of foundation for people to donate in David's name, probably something having to do with music, a scholarship fund," she told "Dateline." "David loved music more than anything. And he desperately wanted his music to be heard."

I love my dogs so much, I just can't imagine doing that to any of them =( (not that I would commit suicide either)

I'd do the same for my cats. I don't view them as less-thans. They're my furry kids :(

I heard someone say that this isn't super common, but it does happen with people who are very attached to their pets, because they can't bear to think of their pet being left alone.

I feel the exact same way. I was in pieces when my dog Patches passed away back in 2009. It hit me a lot harder than it did for my dog Princess (who passed away a few years before that).

I couldn't imagine doing anything to them when they were both alive.
