I really liked Karen, so I'm hopeful this was all foreshadowing that she was coming back, and not just a plot to show Lip letting her go so he can really be with Mandy now.
I don't think I was nearly as bothered as most of the posters here were by Karen last season. Yes, she could be a bitch. But she was dealing with a lot, and giving up her baby. I think people mistook her coldness for being evil, but I think it's very common for mothers about to give up their babies to become cold and appear mean and unfeeling. It's their way of distancing themselves from their reality. And I DEFINITELY supported her desire to give the baby to social services instead of her mother. She spent her whole life taking care of her mother. If her mother took the baby, Karen would have ended up right where she didn't want to be - taking care of a baby. Because clearly Sheila isn't equipped - she is oblivious to the fact that Frank is drugging the poor kid! It's sick. The baby would have been MUCH better off with Social Services, where the chances of finding a home for a newborn, even with Down's, are still very good.
AHHHHH. That's awesome. I love Karen and I didn't have as many issues with her last season as some people either, but I've never been able to articulate it.
You know what, I actually agree with you to a really large degree. The actress also played it well enough that you could tell there was more going on with her. And a character doesn't just go from human to sociopathic without reason. I always thought she self-destructed because she felt like she wasn't good enough for Lip and especially not her baby. If she came back this season and they redeemed her character it would be worth it.
But for now it seems like they're trying to push Mandy and Lip on us and it feels contrived.

Anyway, essay over, just sayin' I like Karen.
