Miranda' star Tom Ellis for 'Downton Abbey?

Tom Ellis is reportedly being lined up to star in the next series of Downton Abbey.

The Miranda actor auditioned for the role of Lady Mary's new love interest and has since been shortlisted for the part by producers, the Sunday Mirror reports.

An ITV source said: "Tom has always been popular but he has really become hot property since his role as Gary in Miranda.

"He really showed his versatility and he's also incredibly popular with the female viewers. It was an absolute no-brainer to get him in for an
audition.

"We know that Tom's got a lot of other options at the moment but if he does get the role it will be an incredible opportunity for him. A lot of the current cast have become global superstars.

"And it is always a bit of a coup for us to attract a major BBC star to a flagship ITV show like Downton Abbey."

Lady Mary, played by Michelle Dockery, seemingly lost husband Matthew (Dan Stevens) in a car crash during Downton Abbey's Christma special. Her new romance will be a key plot in the next series.

I've never watched Miranda so i know him as "Natalie Dormer's hot husband in The Fades"
They weren't joking about wanting a really good looking guy for who could become the future Mr Lady Mary Crawley.

I was never all that obsessed with them as a pairing, but they were sweet together (well, in S1-2) and I was PISSED AS FUCK that we invested all that time & energy in them just to have it end like that. How is Dan Steven's quest for a more inspiring role going? Ugh.

At least Jessica gave the writers a heads up, but then the way they wrote him out was almost silly because his departure was so unexpected. I hope Jessica's career takes off, though. She was really delightful (and heartbreaking) as Sybil.

From what I understood, he did give them advanced notice, but they thought they could convince him to stay, so they didn't write him out until the very end. I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading that.

I seem to recall Fellowes basically saying that they wouldn't have killed Matthew if they'd thought they could've had Stevens back for one or two future eps/scenes, but as it was they had to get rid of him entirely. So now I blame Stevens even more than Fellowes because REALLY, DUDE, how hard is it to put on a fancy suit and sit in a drawing room and exchange witticisms with other good actors? Because lbr, that's all the role is at this point. Eternal SMH.

I saw this and nearly sprained my eyes from rolling them. Like what even.

Maggie Smith is probably the worst possible example for this too. She has total form for bitching about how shit stuff she's been in is, and openly admits when she takes roles for the sake of the paycheck. (She never even read the HP books and referred to the movies as her retirement fund.)

The shade she casts on projects she's been in is among her most hilarious qualities.
