The Selection Dumps its Entire Cast (except the black guy)

Sean Patrick Thomas to return for new ‘The Selection’ pilot

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance, Ringer) will not only reprise his role for The Selection – but that he is the only original cast member returning!

Thomas will play Sylvan Santos, “a close adviser to the current queen and an expert in royal etiquette who advises the participants in the competition”.

Earlier this week we reported that Aimee Teegarden had been offered the lead in another CW pilot, Oxygen, it’s now been confirmed that she will not take part in The Selection.

Are you sad to see Ethan Peck (10 Things I Hate About You), William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia) and the others go?

It was actually a NYT Bestseller and the fangirls that love it are extremely crazy over it.

It's like you think Twilight was the bottom and then people keep proving you wrong...

The premise is Hunger Games-esque so they will try to sell it on that, just liked TVD became a success thanks to Twilight (presumably)

If the CW wants it to be a success they need to bring on a big name. What gave TVD traction initially was Ian Somerhalder. I may think he's an obnoxious shit, but even the creators have admitted signing him to that show suddenly gave them real attention. That's what this show should do if they want a good shot.

Maybe that's why they retooled the pilot and dropped the cast that was attached? I only knew Ethan who's hardly a big star, even if his voice is damn dreamy.

They didn't even have to drop everyone. All they need is one name, and since it's the CW, it needs to be a conventionally hot guy, who has been on a big network show or had supporting movie roles within the past few years.
