I've struggled with maintaining friendships when my friends made personal choices that I just couldn't overlook. One of my friends in college got busted for selling term papers and such to the highest bidder; I wasn't very good friends with her so I just said "ew" and moved on. A better friend turned VERY pro-life and confessed so to me, and I really struggled not to let it be something that bothered me, but then she admitted she planned to vote with that in mind and I just found I didn't want her as a friend anymore.
And then my BEST friend has been sleeping with a married man for like four years, and it's really been such a struggle to reconcile that really heinous thing with the rest of her, but she's such a good friend and we have such a long history that I can just be sad about it in the back of my mind.
It's harder when people are hurting themselves with their choices, though.
