John Mayer: "I Was a Jerk"

We're guessing John Mayer's' kiss-and-tell days are over.

In a forthcoming interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the "Clarity" singer and Katy Perry's new beau reflects harshly on his well-earned rep as a Hollywood heartbreaker who notoriously spills to the press about his breakups.

"I was just a jerk," the 35-year-old Mayer tells host Anthony Mason.

The blues rocker notes that he's changed since the days of his past interviews—like that infamous 2010 Playboy sit-down when he compared former ladylove Jessica Simpson to "sexual napalm" and offered up TMI comments about ex Jennifer Aniston.

"It's very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you," Mayer said, adding, "I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction."

The Grammy winner, who was forced off the road last year for 10 months so he could recover from vocal cord surgery, confessed that getting over the negative reaction resulting from his media interviews was a lot harder than dealing with the reoccurring granuloma that nearly robbed him of his voice.

Before hooking up with the "Firework" crooner, Mayer was also linked in the past to the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Minka Kelly and Taylor Swift, the last of whom gave the singer-songwriter a taste of his own medicine by seemingly writing about their relationship in her hit "Dear John."

The full interview with Mayer airs Feb. 10 on CBS Sunday Morning at 9 a.m. ET.

I have been listening to John Mayer on repeat for like the past week. He might be a complete douche, but god damn it if he isn't a fantastic musician.

i went to a show on his continuum tour, before the jen aniston/jessica simpson nonsense. like when he just played music and wasn't insufferable. it was one of the best concerts i've ever been to.

YES. When he toured with Maroon 5 in...2004? He was so entertaining and great and then I went shortly after all his remarks and drama and it was just...meh. I can't even explain how.

No Room For Squares got me through life.

I think you mean just "Room for Squares". "No Room for Squares" is an album by jazz saxophonist, Hank Mobley. It's a classic, and John Mayer's album is a nod to that Hank Mobley album title.

Love all his stuff but there's very little I like about "Born & Raised."
I LOVE "Walt Grace" though.

I wasn't super crazy for most of Born & Raised either. I really love "Born & Raised" and "Something like Olivia", though.

"Walt Grace" & "Face to Call Home" do it for me. "Born & Raised" makes me sad.
