Andrew Scott lands new Channel 4 drama

Time Heals All Things...except for these crazy eyes

IRISH actor Andrew Scott is set to star in a new drama for Channel 4 entitled Dates.

Scott, who is best known for playing Moriarty in recent BBC series Sherlock, has been cast in one episode of the nine-part series from Skins creator Bryan Elsley.

The series will examine modern relationships with each episode focusing on a different date.

The official synopsis reveals: "From the confusion and misunderstandings of school teacher Jenny’s first encounter with city trader Nick, through to the urbane cool of Mia’s first date with Stephen, Dates is an episodic slice of modern life, following eleven unconnected people as they embark on a series of first encounters lured by the promise of romance. Or something. Whatever. They'd just like to meet somebody, maybe. But what happens when the white lies spun in that all important online profile are revealed, or bigger lies are told to cover up the smaller, seemingly more innocuous ones – the crisis of confidence, the sexual confusion? And what happens when the bread sticks run out and the bill for one has to be paid?"

Irish Merlin star Katie McGrath will also star in the series, which will also star Greg McHugh, Will Mellor, Sheridan Smith, Ben Chaplin, Neil Maskell, Oona Chaplin, Gemma Chan, Montana Thompson and Sian Breckin.

Dates is currently shooting in London and will be on air this summer.

how the hell is katie being cast in all these projects? she's the worst of the merlin cast.

someone just pls cast bradley james in something omg.
seaghostsoaring 7th-Feb-2013 10:11 pm (UTC)
she's pretty and that's really all it takes. I vaguely remember the merlin showrunners essentially admitting that was why she was cast in a behind the scenes/commentary thingy. Like, she went from being crew to an actress and that doesn't really happen unless you're good looking.

as far as bradley, is he even talented? he was so laughably underused for being one of the leads that I never could get an idea if he was a decent actor or not.

How incredibly gross of them. Moff did the same to Karen Gillan, it is so disrespectful.

No your thinking of The Tudors where she was a wardrobe assistant and they started using her for background shots. From there she got an agent and appeared on the Tudors the next year. As for Merlin she got way better by the end, much more nuance and subtle than when she stated.
bellwetherr 8th-Feb-2013 02:51 am (UTC)
my bias aside, bradley is wonderful and he was especially great in the final two seasons.
crazyventures 7th-Feb-2013 10:25 pm (UTC)
I came in to say this and I am so glad it was the first comment.
imkevinspacey 7th-Feb-2013 11:40 pm (UTC)
She's absolutely fine.

She won't be winning any Oscars in the future but when she was actually given quality writing to work with in Merlin (for instance when he poisoned her) she was fab.
imkevinspacey 7th-Feb-2013 11:41 pm (UTC)
And lbr being the worst in the Merlin cast isn't an insult given how talented they all are.

I don't know what this is or what it's from but I can't look away.

so i watched sherlock the other day and while it was okay, i couldn't get over how hideous bernard cumberwhatever was. so i tweeted that and at least 5 sherlocks stans tweeted me back in an hour, yelling at me about it. and i thought 1d stans were bad jfc
la_petite_singe 7th-Feb-2013 10:13 pm (UTC)
...Are you new?? To, like, the Internet?? Benedict stans are among the craziest out there. I thought I was one, and then I encountered the true stans and I was like "...oh. So I'm normal, then."

Can we be in a club, bb?
unlocked1111 7th-Feb-2013 10:13 pm (UTC)
well if you talked shit about 1d you'd have more than just 5 people coming at you trust me.
seaghostsoaring 7th-Feb-2013 10:18 pm (UTC)
sherlock/cumberslipper fans have campaigned hard to win the prestigious title of Worst Fans Ever and they keep getting worse. It's like the amount of chins he has at any given time act as a red alert system directly correlated with the intensity of their fervour.
megggannn 7th-Feb-2013 11:57 pm (UTC)
I feel weird for finding him attractive just as Sherlock, like in any other photos or roles he's so weird-looking idgi he looks like an alien, but in the show I think it's the dark hair that just balances out the rest of the weirdness going on with his head

but yeah the stans are awful, I feel like I casually both like and dislike him at the same time in response to all the hype
la_petite_singe 7th-Feb-2013 10:11 pm (UTC)
Damn, I still haven't caught up on that last post-Sherlock thing he did. Homeboy is so busy.
juniorquincy 7th-Feb-2013 10:13 pm (UTC)
i thought that was jonathan groff
tinurix 7th-Feb-2013 10:13 pm (UTC)
I'm beginning to realize he was the best part of BBC Sherlock and season 3 is likely to be terribly lackluster in comparison because he was so fantastic.
sherlockholmes 7th-Feb-2013 10:15 pm (UTC)
True facts.

He was. I just love how he made the character his own and he was just so fun to watch.

All of this - I'm going to miss the fuck out of his Moriarty.

Ooo, an Irish celebrities tag... Wow!

Anyway, very excited to see this. Well, apart from Katie McGrath. She may be pretty, but her acting is questionable.
imkevinspacey 7th-Feb-2013 11:37 pm (UTC)
She's fine.

She was given very little to work with in Merlin.
katina921 7th-Feb-2013 11:00 pm (UTC)
Hey guys
I just watched Sherlock, what are the major fan theories about how Sherlock survives?
xjerseydevilx 7th-Feb-2013 11:48 pm (UTC)
He jumped into the trash-truck, which Watson couldn't see from the point where he was standing, someone from Sherlocks street-network ran him over/drugged him (can't really remember that one) so he wouldn't be able to tell that the body he saw wasn't Sherlock's.

I finally watched The Town last week for him. He wrecked me with his everything. I'm so used to him being delightfully psychotic in Sherlock, I had no idea he could play angst so heartbreakingly well.
illname_me_joan 8th-Feb-2013 02:59 am (UTC)
you should watch Sea Wall and My Life in Film (he can do comedy too!)
