‘Girls’ Star Allison Williams Is the New Face of Simple Skincare

If you sit next to Allison Williams on an airplane, we’re just going to warn you: She might start washing her face. In her seat.

“When I fly, halfway through the flight, I like to give myself a face wash,” the Girls star — and new face of Simple skincare — tells PEOPLE. “I just sit there and turn toward the window and use a wipe.”

Yep, she’s that serious about skincare! Which is why joining with Simple — whose products are formulated for sensitive skin — was a no-brainer for the rising star.

“I do have sensitive skin, actually, and it’s been really hard to find products that don’t make it inflamed, or red or dry, or make it break out,” she reveals. “It’s really complicated, but I’ve learned that it’s the case for more people than not. I don’t know how many people have unproblematic skin — that’s rare.”

A lot of Williams’s skin issues come from her job, which obviously requires lots of makeup application and removal. “If you’re an actress — and in some cases, this goes for all women — the only thing you can control about your skin is what you put on your face at the beginning of the day, and what you do when you take your makeup off,” she says. “Otherwise, it’s affected by stress, makeup artists, weather, pollution. The great thing about Simple products is that they protect you against those things — you can wipe it all off at the end of the day.”

Williams recently spent a day in L.A. shooting a commercial for the brand, and she found the premise pretty true to life. “It kind of documents a typical day — on my way to work in the morning, getting ready and washing my face, all the way through the end of the day when I take my makeup off and relax.”

But in an ideal world, Williams’s days would go a little differently.

“Lately I find myself working quite a bit — it’s such a blessing,” she says. “But I have a fantasy that I’ll go back to a time when I’m not in hair and makeup every day!”

Has anyone used the oil cleansing method? Or any other natural/homemade/homeopathic type of skin care?? So far baking soda and apple cider vinegar have helped a bit with my acne. Wish I could natural moisturizers that don't cost a ton and didn't contain a billion ingredients

I'm three weeks into the OCM. I have kind of given up because my skin looks horrific. Granted, I'm also getting my period, but it really made me mad (ha) because it made me super dry! I'm gonna drop off the amount of castor oil. I struggle with it since I live in Denver and it's crazy dry here. I have grapeseed right now and it's nice, plus a few drops of pure lavender oil. I still use Cetaphil post-workout, though. Nothing can make me sweat more than a run, and just a rinse isn't really getting the germs off.

Oh yeah, it sounds like you need to add more moisturizing oil to your face. (I use Sunflower, what do you use?) I also found that doing the OCM my T-zone is on the dry side, so I always go back over that area with just straight sunflower oil an let it sit there for a few moments. That helps balance things out for me

Ohhhhh that's a good idea. I was gonna do sunflower and bought grapeseed instead since it's supposed to help acne and oil. It's so funny, I used to be oily, and now I'm not at all. I do appreciate that part.

Also, since starting it, I've had like three biiiig blemishes and they stay dark. Have you heard anything about that or had that happen to you yet?

I'm tempted to hop in the shower and start my day over at 3 pm just to steam my face. I know I don't do that part well enough :( By the time I wanna sleep, I just want my makeup off my damn face and I just kinda do hot water, oil rub, rinse, pat dry.

I used Grapeseed Oil, but I find it a little drying. I love the overall effects it has on my skin but once it fully absorbs I find it doesn't provide adequate hydration. I sometimes mix it with a bit of Argan oil and it doesn't break my skin out at all and I have pretty problematic skin in that regard so give that a shot.

I have a comment below, but I love it. It has worked wonders for my face

I've used just straight up olive oil to moisturize before once. I was having some serious dry skin problems while visiting my sister in NYC, and rubbing olive oil all over my face almost instantaneously fixed it.

I've been using OCM to clear up this weird flaky/red/hot mess by using Boots Botanical oil something or other, it's mostly jojoba and I'm liking the results. I still use raw honey and my Clarisonic now and again though. A lot of Asian brands have good premixed oils to fit your skin type.

Do you put the raw honey on the Clarisonic? Is that worth the price? I've been thinking of getting one.

I use argan oil as a moisturizer and I like it a lot, especially since it's gotten so dry and cold.

I use that stuff too. It's perfect

ocm increased my acne, and i felt too scared to experiement with different oils until i found the right mix. i spray a bit of rose water on my face before putting tamunu oil on and my skin has never been so clear or even toned since i was like... 12 :| idk what it is about that oil but its magical, im acne prone too and its helped me so much!

i also take vitamin a, msm, chlorella and chia seeds as supplements and they have made me feel healthier in general and my skin just looks better because of that too

I don't know if it counts but I put coconut oil on my skin about 10 mins before a shower, I feel like it's made a difference. My skin feels sooooo soft.

I started making my own face wash with castile soap, vegetable glycerin and honey. Best face wash I have ever used. It doesn't leave my skin dry at all, something I had a problem with every other one I tried, and I don't break out as much. I used to get a zit maybe once or twice a week but now I get one every few weeks.
