Pilot Scoop: Emma Roberts Lands Lead Role in Fox's Delirium

Emma Roberts is venturing back to the small screen in a big way, signing on to play the lead role in Fox’s drama pilot Delirium, TVLine has learned.

Based on the bestselling young adult novels by Lauren Oliver, Delirium is set in world where love is deemed illegal and is able to be eradicated with a special procedure. But with 95 days to go until her scheduled treatment, defiant teen Lena Holoway (Roberts) does the unthinkable and falls in love.

Karyn Usher (Prison Break) penned the script and will serve as an EP alongside Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope.

After hitting it big with Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, Roberts went on to star in films such as Nancy Drew, Hotel For Dogs and Scream 4. She recently wrapped a role in We’re the Millers opposite Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudekis.

It's unthinkable and yet they apparently wait until humans are well in their teens/early twenties before performing this "procedure"? Hmm. Okay. Sounds legit.

LOL SRSLY

the whole thing makes no sense. delirium's premise makes it worse than most other YAs when it comes to coming up with a dystopian setting that's merely a thinly veiled gimmick/plot device for a forbidden romance.

Shame, really. Aren't there other things in life that can be forbidden? Dystopia covers a lot of ground. Write a story about the forbidden badger or something. Jesus.
