Pilot Scoop: Emma Roberts Lands Lead Role in Fox's Delirium

Emma Roberts is venturing back to the small screen in a big way, signing on to play the lead role in Fox’s drama pilot Delirium, TVLine has learned.

Based on the bestselling young adult novels by Lauren Oliver, Delirium is set in world where love is deemed illegal and is able to be eradicated with a special procedure. But with 95 days to go until her scheduled treatment, defiant teen Lena Holoway (Roberts) does the unthinkable and falls in love.

Karyn Usher (Prison Break) penned the script and will serve as an EP alongside Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope.

After hitting it big with Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, Roberts went on to star in films such as Nancy Drew, Hotel For Dogs and Scream 4. She recently wrapped a role in We’re the Millers opposite Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudekis.

Yeah...nobody wants this.
liliana_ 7th-Feb-2013 07:11 pm (UTC)
I feel like this would make an awesome premise for a film, but idk about a tv show...

treebraids 7th-Feb-2013 07:37 pm (UTC)
yup, it seems quite trendy to commission TV shows like that. And then by the time the second season comes round they start floundering because the idea is not sustainable.

i really liked the book and i woulda loved a movie but tv show??? like maybe a mini series but a tv show is stretching it...

Love is illegal but she falls on love.
...that is so so dumb
imnotasquirrel 7th-Feb-2013 07:29 pm (UTC)
it's a romance story masquerading as a dystopian story, the author just went with whatever was easiest lol.
hollis1975 7th-Feb-2013 07:13 pm (UTC)
ugh this betch
vervain 7th-Feb-2013 07:13 pm (UTC)
i was reading delirium the other year and emma roberts is who i thought the main character looked like.
redaodai 7th-Feb-2013 07:13 pm (UTC)
If only she could act. Otherwise, she doesn't really bother me.
bodylikemind 7th-Feb-2013 07:14 pm (UTC)
she can't act so i have no interest in seeing this now
door 7th-Feb-2013 07:14 pm (UTC)
It's unthinkable and yet they apparently wait until humans are well in their teens/early twenties before performing this "procedure"? Hmm. Okay. Sounds legit.
spartacus 7th-Feb-2013 07:17 pm (UTC)
LOL SRSLY
imnotasquirrel 7th-Feb-2013 07:20 pm (UTC)
the whole thing makes no sense. delirium's premise makes it worse than most other YAs when it comes to coming up with a dystopian setting that's merely a thinly veiled gimmick/plot device for a forbidden romance.
door 7th-Feb-2013 07:44 pm (UTC)
Shame, really. Aren't there other things in life that can be forbidden? Dystopia covers a lot of ground. Write a story about the forbidden badger or something. Jesus.
chandyland11 7th-Feb-2013 07:14 pm (UTC)

Good. Emma Roberts is the lead actress this series deserves.
whutness 8th-Feb-2013 03:19 pm (UTC)
This comment is killing me
tobesurrounded 7th-Feb-2013 07:14 pm (UTC)
i rather enjoyed Delirium. unlike most YA authors these days Lauren Oliver writes quite well. idk about this becoming a TV-show tho, but I'll withhold judgement.
spartacus 7th-Feb-2013 07:14 pm (UTC)
sounds better suited for a movie or the WB
noon 7th-Feb-2013 07:15 pm (UTC)

breaktheice89 7th-Feb-2013 07:29 pm (UTC)

poisoned_summer 7th-Feb-2013 07:16 pm (UTC)
guess her movie career is flopping huh
xxxtttiiinnnaaa 7th-Feb-2013 07:24 pm (UTC)
Not really, she has two high profile films coming out this year. Since when is going back to television a bad thing?
tryxkittie 7th-Feb-2013 07:38 pm (UTC)
what's shein?
treebraids 7th-Feb-2013 07:40 pm (UTC)
since forever, it only started changing in the last 5 years or so. Even then I doubt you would catch the real heavy hitters signing up for a TV show.
michelleantonia 8th-Feb-2013 11:34 am (UTC)
It's definitely not. No one in their right mind would say the quality of films is up to par with the quality of television. Soon enough, everyone is gonna be clamoring to get to tv. Especially now that you've got Kevin Spacey on House of Cards
xandy_candyx 7th-Feb-2013 07:16 pm (UTC)
Meh.
truexillusions 7th-Feb-2013 07:16 pm (UTC)
I haven't read the book yet but her being cast makes me lose interest. I can't stand her lol.
