The most adorable member of Little Mix gives an interview; is disappointed with their management

With a top three debut album and a trio of top five singles to their name, Little Mix's plans for UK domination are well under way.

What's more, having found success across Europe and Australia and with a US record deal under their belts, it shouldn't be long before the rest of the world follows suit.

With their new single 'Change Your Life' out this week, DS phoned up Jade Thirlwall on her lunch break for a much-needed catch-up.

Hello Jade! It's lunch time. What are you having for lunch?
"Hello! I'm having a chicken wrap, I'm trying to be a bit healthier rather than having pizza all the time."

We know it's a bit late to ask now, but how was your Christmas/New Year break?
"It was lovely, thanks. I went to Disneyland for New Years with my boyfriend so it was really nice."

Are you a bit of a daredevil?
"I'm a bit of a wimp usually, but because my boyfriend paid for it, I felt that I had to try to be a cool girlfriend and go on everything so I just had to. It was alright actually, but I'm quite scared of everything to be honest. I am scared of heights, spiders, clowns, everything."

Perrie was away from the group for most of December, is she okay now?
"She's absolutely fine. I would say that her voice is even better than before - it's opened up a lot more."

Even better? Her voice was pretty huge before.
"It's amazing, I don't know how she does it. It sounds a bit clearer now, whereas it was a bit huskier before."

Your new single 'Change Your Life' is officially out this week. Do you count this as your third or fourth single?
"Definitely the fourth single. 'Cannonball' was the first single, but it wasn't our song so it's not our single as such but in terms of our own music and what we've written this is the third. We're really looking forward to it coming out. We love the message of it."

It's very positive and uplifting.
"It's the first proper song we wrote together and I think you can really tell that when you listen to the lyrics and stuff. We had just come out of The X Factor, we were thinking about that and thinking about the fans, so it's quite an important one. I think it's quite uplifting."

Given this is the fourth single from the album and it's all gone very well so far, is the pressure off for this release?
"We always hope for the best with the singles. Obviously the album is out already so a lot of people would have heard it already on the album. It's always more pressure selling the first single, but we've got amazing fans. We think this kind of song will cater for anyone with the message that it has. And the video will come out soon. We'll see. We're hoping it will have the same kind of hype as before."

Your last single 'DNA' remains an amazing song. Are you annoyed it didn't get to number one?
"Yeah, we were kind of disappointed because it sold really well. I think it was just the timing because One Direction at the time shot straight to number one with 'Little Things'. It's always hard to compete with the 1D lads. And we're chuffed to bits for them; we've always been supportive of them.

"We were really happy with the sales but a little bit disheartened just because we worked so hard on that song. It is one of our favorites on the album and we kind of thought as well that 'Wings' was amazing and that was on the same level if not better. At the end of the day getting number one isn't always everything. It's more how you sell it over the weeks, isn't it?"

Well it definitely sold the album to a lot of people.
"Yeah we couldn't believe that - especially the amount of physical sales we had. It was really nice to know that people would go out of the way and get the physical copy for Christmas. Now can't wait to be starting recording for the next album."

Already?! There are at least four more singles on your current album; how many more do you think you'll release?
"I think we'll try to squeeze out as many singles as we can. When we wrote the album, we always thought that we didn't want our songs to be like, 'Oh yeah, these are singles but that song is more of an album song'. I think there's room for a couple more singles to be put out there before the next album. We've already got our ideas what will come after 'Change Your Life'."

What are your personal favorites that you would like to see get released as a single?
"I honestly love every song on different days. I do love 'Going Nowhere' - I think it's got a different sound and the harmonies are amazing. I like 'Turn Your Face' because I think it shows our vocals properly and shows everyone we're not just teeny boppers who jump around and mime to music. There's always that kind of stigma with X Factor and as a pop band, just because we're pure pop, it doesn't mean we can't riff, belt or sing our heart out. People still think we can't sing." (those people are dumbasses)

Can we add 'Red Planet' to the list please?
"I like that one. I wish we could get T-Boz over here and perform it with her. We'll see."

You recently signed a deal in the US with Columbia Records. When are you due to head over there?
"We're hoping to get out there later this year. We'll see how it goes out there, but we've also done well in Australia, so we'd love to go back there at some point and Europe as well."

Sounds like a hectic few months await you.
"We recently got a draft of a diary for this year and it's absolutely mental the amount of traveling we'll be doing. It's a bit daunting but at the same time it's absolutely amazing. To think a year ago we didn't even know if we had an album coming out, 'Wings' wasn't at number one and now we're traveling the world. Last year went so quickly we just can't believe it and it's probably going to happen this year, so we have got to make the most of it."

It must be nice in a way to be booked up; we don't even know what we're doing next week.
"It's definitely better than hearing, 'Next week, there's nothing to do'. Then I'd be worried."

She doesn't outright say she's disappointed in their management, but you know it's true. They completely screwed them over releasing DNA the same week as Little Things. And their promotion for the actual album sucked.

Also...Wings is #57 on US iTunes already!!

Wings reached #52 last night!

with just twitter/fb as promotion that's pretty impressive imo.

No joke. I was just saying this to someone -- no video release, no TV, no magazines, just word of mouth online.

so much eyeliner in this pic D:

I love Red Planet. Change Your Life is so blah, I like 'You're untouchable when you realiseeeee' but the chorus is a total non-event. The album could have been so much better if they had hired some producers with some spark and imagination.
12muses 6th-Feb-2013 09:02 pm (UTC)
my dream is for them to work with Xenomania or Max Martin
okay_awesome 6th-Feb-2013 09:42 pm (UTC)
Didn't they work with Xenomania on one of their songs?
whatsername104 7th-Feb-2013 06:59 am (UTC)
yes! in that vain though, I'm glad Nicola worked with them and hope she continues to. Going Nowhere is great.

I meant "realiiiiiiiise" ofc

I heard Wings on the US radio yesterday and I had to contain my excitment from my family lol.

I don't get how DNA didn't outsell Little Things - it's a shit song
12muses 6th-Feb-2013 09:04 pm (UTC)
omg on what station?

I've heard it at Victoria's Secret stores but not on radio yet. anxiously waiting tbh
hypnology 6th-Feb-2013 09:12 pm (UTC)
Hits XM on sirius radio.

Victoria's also placed it at their fashion show

Change Your Life shouldn't be a single. there are so much better songs on the album.
iheartfamke 6th-Feb-2013 09:28 pm (UTC)
Their management has something to worry about because not one of those Little Mix girls is cute.

The black girl is very pretty. She sticks out like a sore thumb because the rest of them are just beat.

belkisa 6th-Feb-2013 10:49 pm (UTC)
I don't find her pretty. She looks so bloated. Perrie needs to wear her makeup like this all the time and she also needs to fix her eyebrows.
cageyb 6th-Feb-2013 09:34 pm (UTC)
Yeah, we were kind of disappointed because it sold really well. I think it was just the timing because One Direction at the time shot straight to number one with 'Little Things'. It's always hard to compete with the 1D lads.

But DNA only reached #3, meaning there was another non-1D song people bought more than yours preventing it from reaching the top. You still wouldn't have hit #1, so it's a totally silly excuse to say 1D blocked you.
12muses 6th-Feb-2013 09:38 pm (UTC)
IT WAS THAT DAMN BRUNO MARS!

locked out of heaven is still a jam tho
faithgrowsold 6th-Feb-2013 09:53 pm (UTC)
I really wish We Are Who We Are would be a single but it's so similar to CYL that I can't see it happening. Crying forever, that one is my fave. I can't believe people still think they can't sing.

Also, I heard Wings in Forever 21 yesterday and I was jamming out in the dressing room. So fucking excited ughh. They need to hurry up and give me tour dates for the US so I can plan my life accordingly.
okay_awesome 6th-Feb-2013 10:01 pm (UTC)
I LOVE We Are Who We Are.

Forreal. I need to see them live

NGL, if they open for 1D, I'm going to go to that & leave immediately after their set.
