Hmm yeah, it's very possible, which is a shame because he could've used Community, which is on the ~cutting edge of comedy right now, to get himself back in the game. Instead he just complained about it from day one and comes off as, like you said, like a really bitter and sad old man.
(Though I have to say I understand some of Chevy's frustrations because they made Pierce completely unbearable as a character, but then again, that might have just been punishment for Chevy's awful attitude/personality).
