The 'Twilight Saga' has left a mark on Hollywood as more films aimed at teen girls start to show up.

The sun may have set on “The Twilight Saga,” but those films have left their glitter all over the movie industry.
It wasn’t just Twi-hards whose hearts were set aflutter by the romantic vampire/werewolf/human love triangle crafted by author Stephenie Meyer, it was studio executives, too.

I agree that the teen obsession with supernatural stuff is getting a little tired. I guess these things always have phases. But Warm Bodies was adorbs and now I want to read the book--I hear the movie changed the ending and something ~big happens in the book? (Don't spoil me.) The soundtrack was also gr8; it brought "Midnight City" into my life.

And I don't much want to see Mortal Instruments, but I give them props for using "Sunshine (Adagio in D)" in the trailer.

I *love* Midnight City, I was so excited when it turned up in the movie.

I just watched the Mortal Instruments trailer for Sunshine (Adagio in D). The song seemed so out of place in it. Sunshine is a powerful, moving, beautiful song, and that trailer was.......

I want some light, fun books to get turned into movies. Like one of Sarah Dessen's novels, or The Summer I Turned Pretty (which i think might become a TV-show? idk) or something like that.
kissoffools 5th-Feb-2013 10:46 pm (UTC)
They amalgamated Sarah's first two books into "How To Deal", with Mandy Moore. It didn't go over well, I don't think. :( I wish they'd try again, I think some of her middle-career books were way better.
tobesurrounded 5th-Feb-2013 10:55 pm (UTC)
yeah ia, her mid-career books were the def best. i hope her new book is good!
bexclare 5th-Feb-2013 09:18 pm (UTC)
Yes claps for Cassie Claire for writing something so original~~~
hera_bearrra 5th-Feb-2013 09:19 pm (UTC)
All these basic white people (except for Saoirse Ronan ofc)
hypnology 5th-Feb-2013 09:19 pm (UTC)
After seeing a preview for the Host I'm interested by it. I want to read but steph meyer ehhhh
manubibi 5th-Feb-2013 09:28 pm (UTC)
Read it, it really has nothing to do with Twilight. It seems like it's been written by someone else entirely tbh, and I started reading with the same prejudice :)
mellarks 5th-Feb-2013 09:36 pm (UTC)
The Host is actually really good, tbqh.
tucker 5th-Feb-2013 09:41 pm (UTC)
I read it several times a year lol, I Love it
alexlover14 5th-Feb-2013 09:42 pm (UTC)
I'm actually pretty excited for it, though tbh I can't remember what the book was about. I'm basing my excitement on Saoirse and Max.

in order to create a strong female protagonist that she found lacking in the genre.

mission NOT accomplished, clare.
hera_bearrra 5th-Feb-2013 09:31 pm (UTC)
Didn't she basically rip off Ginny from Harry Potter? Except she made her version of Ginny more of an insufferable asshole.
chandyland11 5th-Feb-2013 09:33 pm (UTC)
SURELY SHE MUST BE JOKING
tryxkittie 5th-Feb-2013 10:19 pm (UTC)
clare thinks anyone who criticizes Clary is a girl-hating girl hater. It's hilarious how delusional she is.

Like, Clary's just a shit character all around. She slutshames, she's a general asshole to everyone, she's superficial, she's self-centered, she's an asshole to her mother, but oh she's the mary sue special girl with a knife therefore she's a strong heroine?

wtf YA.
imnotasquirrel 5th-Feb-2013 10:21 pm (UTC)
she's also one of those girls who doesn't get along with most other girls. nagl.
zombieland 5th-Feb-2013 09:21 pm (UTC)
Also, it was distracting throughout the whole movie how much the blonde from Warm Bodies looks like Kristen Stewart. They could legit pass for sisters.
christinalina 5th-Feb-2013 09:28 pm (UTC)
Ikr? I just noticed that after I googled pictures for the movie.
lestat 5th-Feb-2013 09:34 pm (UTC)

hotdog 5th-Feb-2013 09:44 pm (UTC)
idts. teresa is so naturally beautiful. her face kinda blew me away at times during the movie when she was smiling. kristen's face is just not cute at all imo.
vickyblueeyez 5th-Feb-2013 09:23 pm (UTC)
After a friend showed me the Magical Negro trope on tv tropes, I see it everywhere now. I saw it recently in the Beautiful Creatures and Mortal Instruments trailers. Another if you count Morgan Freeman in the Tom Cruise movie.
sastra_fuss 5th-Feb-2013 09:24 pm (UTC)

cruel_fortuna 5th-Feb-2013 09:32 pm (UTC)
So uh... isn't there a movie about this already?
I think it's called The Devil's Advocate.
( Ngl, not the best movie but f-- if I don't love Al Pacino as the Devil. )
julietislimited 5th-Feb-2013 09:25 pm (UTC)
I won't lie I can't wait to see Godfrey Gao as Magnus in the mortal instruments. Its cause he's so sexy. Oh and Alec, Simon & Izzy. Fuck Jace and Clary.

/not paying for it though. will wait for tumblr gif sets.

I can't wait until the film adaptation of Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

Zuzana is so hilarious. I'm curious to see who they would cast for Zuzana.
hera_bearrra 5th-Feb-2013 09:33 pm (UTC)
The CGI though
manubibi 5th-Feb-2013 09:26 pm (UTC)
Oh geez, still people think Warm Bodies has anything to do with Twilight? Goddamn.
limalemon 5th-Feb-2013 09:26 pm (UTC)
That Beautiful creatures lading man is not cute. Looks like a Poor man's Penn Badgley.
hera_bearrra 5th-Feb-2013 09:34 pm (UTC)
He looks 30 years old
chandyland11 5th-Feb-2013 09:29 pm (UTC)
I think what I hate most about these books is that they are taking really valuable, formerly interesting classic tropes (love triangles, brooding or bad boy love interests, etc) and turning them into something harmful and boring and commonplace.
