“Ace Of Cakes” Duff Goldman Steps Up For Lesbian Couple Stiffed By Bigoted Baker

Not long after news surfaced that an Oregon baker was refusing to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple, Ace of Cakes star Duff Goldman stepped up and offered to make the women the cake of their dreams.
In January, master baker Aaron Klein told the couple that his company, Sweet Cakes, was declining their business—and called them “abominations unto the Lord.” His actions violate Oregon’s anti-discrimination laws, but rather than wait for this to drag out in court, Goldman went on HuffPo Live and told host Mike Sachs he’d make their wedding cake for free—and even bring it all the way from his bakery in Los Angeles to the women out in Portland.

“This guy’s an idiot,” Goldman tells Sachs about Klein. “For a cake decorator to feel like he really needed to take a stand…it makes no sense, It’s petty, it’s small.”

That's really sweet of him. But hopefully their cake will not look like he made it. :X

That blue/brown with the circle cut out is lovely. But fondant is fucking nasty.

Yeah I've always wondered that about these cake shows.
They try really hard to make the cake look like something else using white cake and rice krispie treats but does it even taste good after it's been covered with fondant??

idk about ace of cakes, but I worked in a fancy bakery in hs and usually what we did when we made a sculpture cake was supply sheet cakes of whatever flavor/filling/buttercream they wanted to actually eat and have the sculpted cake as just decoration.

we only did it for the sculpted cakes that were mostly rice crispies/styrofoam/dowels covered in fondant and painted/sculpted to look cool, like the carriage and the bulldog up in the pictures in the post. They were basically there to be expensive center pieces for the people that bought them.

The actual tiered wedding cakes that are covered in fondant were real cake, with a buttercream later and then a fondant layer on top. You just peal off the fondant and eat it

I went to a wedding with a super fancy fondant-covered cake, and I just took off the fondant. I tried to eat it, but I really don't think it's meant to be eaten (even though it's edible) since it tastes so bitter. The cake tasted good though. I think it's just supposed to be a fancy cover, I guess.

I don't know why they use fondant when molding chocolate exists. Fools!

We had a fancy cake for our wedding rehearsal that was covered in fondant. We just took the fondant off and then there was regular frosting and cake underneath. It was just like peeling an orange but with yummy cake.

ME TOO!! Why am I like the only one who remember the instructions from the baker to do this!

Baker: Don't eat the Fondant...it makes it look extremely pretty but it's quite gross.

A good baker will use marshmallow fondant instead of the nasty shit
