the son, i'm assuming it stands for Sean Jr
shannenb 2nd-Feb-2013 03:28 pm (UTC)
The family's youngest son. He's named after his dad Sean, so they call him SJ instead of Sean Jr.

He was played very irritatingly in the movie by that little kid who was also super irritating playing an annoying kid who was hanging around Riggins in the Friday Night Lights tv series.

little_kitkat 2nd-Feb-2013 03:02 pm (UTC)
Didn't Michael say he didn't like the movie and was embarrassed?
spillvegas 2nd-Feb-2013 03:09 pm (UTC)
pretty much, which is understandable considering he was already a great high school player before the tuohys came along
for_serious13 2nd-Feb-2013 06:19 pm (UTC)
no, he said he loved the movie and the only problem he had is that he knew how to play football before hand.
angelmonster 2nd-Feb-2013 03:04 pm (UTC)
The real SJ has such an unfortunate face.

Also Sandra I love you, please start making movies again.

cukoo4cocopuffs 2nd-Feb-2013 03:39 pm (UTC)

rosewood39 2nd-Feb-2013 03:44 pm (UTC)

The summer camp I worked at with delinquent youth had us watch movies on days it was too hot to be outside and we ended up watching this movie. Now all the kids were mainly PoC's and I just remember one kid getting in trouble because he called the movie a 'racist honky movie.' lmao it was so funny, our bosses got pissed at him.

Seriously tho it was such a stupid movie to show a bunch of disillusioned sassy PoC teenagers. They mocked it the whole time. I was so proud.
loverelapse 2nd-Feb-2013 03:48 pm (UTC)
the rich white folk swoop down to save the "slow" black kid. like i know it's based off real life, kinda, but still. it was a popcorn movie, do not get the accolades or praise.
fusilli_head 2nd-Feb-2013 04:46 pm (UTC)
Typical white savior movie, imo. If somebody forced me to watch that's would have walked out and if they wanted to punish me they could have dealt with my parents. My mom is native and my dad is black so a white person using their honky tears to explain how offended they were that I called something racist would have given me so much life.
bnlmaroonvwbug 2nd-Feb-2013 03:18 pm (UTC)
I really hope the ravens win. I remember when they won when I was in 8th grade and everyone was so proud and excited for weeks in my town.
katiefitch 2nd-Feb-2013 04:48 pm (UTC)
i remember everyone here was super excited, but i had a social studies teacher who was a giants fan and went to the superbowl and came back soooooooo pissed off
mynamehere07 2nd-Feb-2013 03:23 pm (UTC)
I still don't know how she got an Oscar for that role. It seemed like all she did was dye her hair and learn to talk in a southern accent.

I like her better in the run of the mill rom coms.

Thou I do question her whole marriage to Jesse James.
julietislimited 2nd-Feb-2013 03:29 pm (UTC)
she was fabulous in practical magic!
mynamehere07 2nd-Feb-2013 03:36 pm (UTC)
I love that movie, Nicole's hair was so perfect it made me want to cry.
emmakey 2nd-Feb-2013 05:01 pm (UTC)
I think fellow Hollywood folks just like her and wanted her to have it. There have been so many Oscars where it's been like, "let's give it to this really old actor or actress" or let's give it to this actor because we really like other work he or she did and he or she didn't win last time he or she was nommed (like I think a lot of people said that for Nicole Kidman in The Hours, like she was "due").

Here's the year she won:
Sandra Bullock -- The Blind Side {"Leigh Anne Tuohy"}
Helen Mirren -- The Last Station {"Sofya"}
Carey Mulligan -- An Education {"Jenny"}
Gabourey Sidibe -- Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire {"Precious"}
Meryl Streep -- Julie & Julia {"Julia Child"}

I could just imagine some voters talking to each other, "Helen just won 3 years ago. Gabourey and Carey are young and new; they'll have time. Meryl's won a few before and compared to her winning roles, do we want to say that Julia (where she was the co-star and arguably not *the lead*) is an Oscar-worthy performance. That leaves Sandra. We love Sandra and let's face it, this might be her only time at the rodeo (pretty long career now, only 1 nomination), let's give it her."
lori22 2nd-Feb-2013 05:41 pm (UTC)
Sandra Bullock wore a wig in "The Blind Side".
julietislimited 2nd-Feb-2013 03:28 pm (UTC)
the blind side made me cry so much. ;[

That's how I feel about Two Weeks. Godawful movie but I love her rapid-fire speeches to Hugh Grant's character.
rachelbojangles 2nd-Feb-2013 03:49 pm (UTC)
That movie was super cheesy, but I always tear up/sob slightly when she says to those dudes "You mess with my son, you mess with me"
_______awshucks 2nd-Feb-2013 04:06 pm (UTC)
I'm not a huge Michael fan as a player, tbh. He's the source of a lot of our penalties. The movie is qt to watch when it's on ABC Family though..
for_serious13 2nd-Feb-2013 06:39 pm (UTC)

demi32 2nd-Feb-2013 04:41 pm (UTC)
pretty sweet. I hope Sandra brings her son Louis. It's also great she kept in touch with Michael Oher and his family.
