I disagree, I thought Gregson had every right to punch Sherlock (lbr, he's probably wanted to do that for years) He already has put his job on the line to hire Sherlock as a consultant, and he can't control him because he's not on the payroll. So the idea that Sherlock was about to commit a murder made Gregson so angry because he would have been fired for his responsibility for Sherlock etc.
