‘World War Z’ Super Bowl Spot

We’ve all been pretty concerned about Marc Forster‘s adaptation of the Max Brooks novel World War Z. First the film was delayed for extensive reshoots and some accompanying rewrites, and then the first footage failed to assuage the concerns of the book’s biggest fans.

So how does it look now, in this second big footage drop, which comes in the form of a Super Bowl TV spot? The 30-second spot has enough time to recap some of what we’ve seen in the first trailer, including the setup of the zombie outbreak that Brad Pitt and his family must survive, but then it throws out a bit of new effects footage. Does this spot look better or more convincing than the first trailer? I’m not so sure; judge for yourself below.

Why call it World War Z if it's not going to be anything like the book?

Brand recognition?

I think it will actually end up hurting them. It's pretty clear from this post alone that fans of the book are not going to be all that interested in seeing this.

Hmm, idk, maybe they'll see it just to diss it? Anyway, I doubt the studio bought the rights to the book with the plan of driving fans away. My guess is they liked having a "known quantity" in their hands ("Hey, it's a bestseller!") and then some studio executive started meddling.

This one can't be thrown at the executive meddling pile. Pitt was determined to get this movie made, all the changes are because of what he wanted. This movie has been one of his pet projects for a very long time.

Oh I didn't know that. I thought I heard somewhere that Pitt didn't want reshoots and there was a lot of dragging of feet on his part because he didn't want any changes? But yeah, he's a big enough name to call the shots so it's not a surprise if everything's actually his doing.
