i hope i articulate myself properly, but sometimes for me it seems more honest to position yourself as a fool that does not understand local customs than super sensitive and understanding the local culture because more often the latter come across as idiots that do not know what they are talking about

can't argue with that :) i just don't get why being culturally insensitive towards another culture that happens to come from another race is racist, but ignorance towards other cultures of your own race seems much more forgivable. racist is a big word and using it anytime when someone is being simply culturally ignorant - which EVERYBODY IS ALL THE TIME - does diminish it's meaning. i'm not speaking of Lena now, because she did use a word yellow and that is pretty racist, i agree

though i know everybody will roll eyes at my comments, you apparently have to be born with all the knowledge about racism
