Beyoncé Talks Miscarriage: "The Saddest Thing I've Ever Been Through"

While Beyoncé is now the proud parent of adorable daughter Blue Ivy, motherhood wasn't the easiest road for Jay-Z's wife to travel.

And now, the Super Bowl singer is opening up about the miscarriage she suffered, which was revealed last year by her rapping hubby in the track "Glory."

But B herself has never addressed the experience—until now, that is.

"About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time," the 31-year-old said in Life Is But a Dream, her HBO documentary airing next month, an advance copy of which was viewed by various outlets.

"And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life."

While she does not detail when, exactly, she suffered her loss, she did say that she felt it hard.

"I picked out names. I envisioned what my child would look like...I was feeling very maternal," she said, adding that something went wrong early in the pregnancy, which she only found out during a routine doctor's appointment.

"I flew back to New York to get my checkup—and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat."

And she dealt with the loss the best way she knew how.

"I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life. And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album," she said, albeit not naming the track or even if it made the final cut. "And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through."

Of course, her story has the happiest of endings, as she and Jay welcomed their daughter on Jan. 7, 2012.

I get that but that's the problem. A woman shouldn't have to defend herself for using a surrogate. That's her decision no matter what assumptions people make. She shouldn't have had to tell the public that she suffered a miscarriage for people to not judge her. That's a personal and private matter that she may not have wanted to speak about. And there are people who are still mocking her.

Nah, I agree, of course. Nothing Beyonce does is really anyone's business, though, lol. Although I think that if she DID get a surrogate (hypothetically), the mocking would have been cut down immensely if she didn't (theoretically) pretend be carrying the child. Being honest about her potential surrogacy would be really empowering to other women that have trouble having kids of their own. Of course no one is entitled to know anything about her personal life, but the idea of her lying about her surrogacy is what made people perceive her as fake.
