Fuck the San Francisco 49ers

Completely heterosexual, Chris Culliver

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver has reportedly made inflammatory comments regarding homosexuality in football just a few days before Super Bowl XLVII.  Shock jock Artie Lange revealed he had interviewed Culliver at media day Tuesday and aired a segment on his show that night, where the player insisted that any gay players would not be welcome on the team.

"I don't do the gay guys man," said Culliver, whose Niners play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. "I don't do that. No, we don't got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do. Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can't be…in the locker room man. Nah." When quizzed by Lange whether any homosexual athletes would need to keep their sexuality a secret in football, Culliver responded: "Yeah, come out 10 years later after that."

In the NFL's long history, there has never been an openly gay active player.

SOURCE

I predict an insincere apology to be released by the end of tomorrow. I would never support the niners (anecdotally, I think they & their fans are utter assholes) but it's kind of saddening to hear that someone representing San Francisco is so ignorant.  I hope you lose the Superbowl for your team and our city, you embarrassing fuck.

marywebgirl 30th-Jan-2013 11:14 pm (UTC)
This. My husband and I went to a SF Giants game a couple years ago to see them play the Mets, and the Mets won. Afterward when we were walking out a Giants fan was yelling "New York supports gay marriage!" like a taunt. We were like, dude you live in San Francisco.
wwheeatbread 31st-Jan-2013 12:21 am (UTC)
There are plenty of idiotic Giants fans, though. When we won the World Series this year, some fucker (a fan, apparently) smashed a bunch of city buses- probably didn't even live in the city. It's upsetting when people come from out of town, trash the city, and then leave the people who live there to deal w/ it.
wristtattoos 31st-Jan-2013 12:40 am (UTC)
the NY Mets suck too, lol someone was so mad they got stupid!

"I don't do the gay guys man,"

Interesting choice of words. He knows what city he plays for, right? More importantly, he know what sport he plays, right?

Shitty opinion even without qualification but it's hard to ignore the irony when he plays for SAN FRANCISCO.

Also, go Ravens!

lol right i didnt care before (im a puppy bowl fan tbh) but at least now i have a team to root for and a reason!
duckyduck92 30th-Jan-2013 11:14 pm (UTC)
I hate jim harbaugh and have had bad experiences with their fans, that was reason enough before this.
stayinthetv 30th-Jan-2013 11:29 pm (UTC)
Not that I don't think his comments are shameful, but if you're gonna determine which team to root for based on players' moral failings, I still think Ray Lewis trumps Colliver.
katiexxpie 30th-Jan-2013 11:39 pm (UTC)
ikr what is this logic
reginageorge 30th-Jan-2013 11:42 pm (UTC)
i'm not really basing it off of this i should have worded it differently. i've wanted the ravens to win for a while really they were my favorite this season for some reason.

I would just like to say, as a San Francsican, while it was extremely irresponsible for the member of the team to spew hate, he DOES NOT represent San Francisco, or even the owners of the Niners. The owners released the following statement:

“The San Francisco 49ers reject the comments that were made yesterday, and have addressed the matter with Chris. There is no place for discrimination within our organization at any level. We have and always will proudly support the LGBT community.”

The niners were also the FIRST (and only?) NFL team to release an "It Gets Better" video.

If you don't like Culliver, not a problem (I am not a fan, though he will probably be one of the most educated players about discrimination and harassment after this weekend). If you dislike the Niners because of other reasons, totally cool. But as someone who has lived in SF and seen the amount of work that the 49ers have done, especially for young sports players in the LGBT community, please do not think that the niners condone or support that kind of thinking.
