Another YA book-to-movie adaptation to be shot this summer

The Fault In Our Stars' Producers Hope To Start Shooting This Summer

As we've mentioned before, 2013 is shaping up to be a great year for literary adaptions, particularly for YA novels. And even though there are plenty of those adaptations already in the can and scheduled to be released this year, we can't help but look forward to a few that haven't even started filming yet, like the big-screen version of John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars," which is being produced by "Twilight" and "Safe Haven" duo Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

Once I finish the books I'm currently reading I really want to read this:

The Sappho’s Fables series takes well-known, beloved fairy tales and retells them from a lesbian perspective.
silentsymphonie 30th-Jan-2013 10:41 pm (UTC)
....I could be into this
hypnology 30th-Jan-2013 10:42 pm (UTC)

When you're done you'll have to let us know how it is.

Also maybe cuz I'm 25 but I'm so sick of YA books.

The Fault in Our Stars was an OK book, but I feel like it's going to translate into a really boring movie, like nothing happens that I want to see adapted to screen.

(Unlike The Book Thief which I think could potentially make a really good movie, but I don't trust a studio to not fuck it all to hell)
phoe21 30th-Jan-2013 11:48 pm (UTC)
I want a great Book Thief adaptation soooo bad but a mediocre one would be such a tragedy :(
elijahxwhore 31st-Jan-2013 02:08 am (UTC)
The Book Thief made me fucking WAIL seriously I got a migraine from crying
alwaysu2 31st-Jan-2013 02:51 am (UTC)
Same. I had to physically get away from the book. Intense sobbing.
mystickiwi 31st-Jan-2013 03:57 am (UTC)
I read Maus and The Book Thief back to back and it took me a week and a half to feel like an OK person and be OK with humanity again
blooms_lady 30th-Jan-2013 10:43 pm (UTC)
the book was Eh.
value_of_truth 30th-Jan-2013 10:45 pm (UTC)
I really, really enjoy his books tbh, the idea/message or w/e behind most of them are really interesting and he seems to put a lot of thought into them, based on those tumblrs he set up anyways.

That being said I feel like this could potentially be a really good film but I don't trust them to miss the point completely.
I think a LFA movie could be really good, if done right.
julietislimited 30th-Jan-2013 10:48 pm (UTC)
the working poor book I have is good but the font is so damn small.
feel like I'm too young to be complaining about small font.

Has anyone here read Pure? My younger sister was the author's assistant during the year and did minor editing work on it (and I've been to her house.. we ordered pizza), and she is trying to pimp it to everyone on facebook right now.

Is it worth the read? I'd like to support the author, but I don't want to waste money if I'll hate it.
squirrels_oh_no 30th-Jan-2013 11:37 pm (UTC)
Which Pure? Julianna Baggott or Jennifer L. Armentrout?
klmnumbers 30th-Jan-2013 11:38 pm (UTC)
Julianna Baggott

I personally didn't like it but know people who RAVE about it

Has anyone here read Graceling by Kristin Cashore? The writing/story seems kind of simplistic so far, but I'm enjoying it anyway. Are the sequel/companion books worth pursuing?
mrscantelope 31st-Jan-2013 12:07 am (UTC)
I liked them. I liked Bitterblue more than Fire, but in my opinion Graceling is the best of the bunch.
clianthe 31st-Jan-2013 11:24 pm (UTC)
they're all pretty different, theme and character-wise, so liking one doesn't necessarily mean you'll like the others. i liked graceling, loved fire and didn't enjoy bitterblue at all. graceling and fire are very character-driven imo, whereas bitterblue is more concerned with the plot and cashore shoving her morals down our throat.
evocates 2nd-Feb-2013 03:34 am (UTC)
Don't touch Fire.

Bitterblue is the best one.

Not gonna lie, I genuinely said "Thank you sweet merciful god" out loud when I found out Green wasn't on the Printz honours list. I think he's massively overrated, the Nerdfighter fandom irritate me to no end and the Lizzie Bennet Diaries team are arrogant little shits. Okay, I'm biased since my blog did a Vlog Brothers week where we criticised their work and were accused of "spreading hate" through our hate blog which was specifically dedicated to unfairly tearing them down. Yeah, I've got that much free time on my hands. Got to love a fandom dedicated to spreading positivity and "being awesome" call everyone who disagrees with them hateful and dicks.
kristinkat 31st-Jan-2013 02:52 am (UTC)
yeeeeah, i'm a nerdfighter but there's a pretty gross underbelly to the fandom as a whole
hisjulliet 30th-Jan-2013 11:53 pm (UTC)
I read this book because of ontd

than I regretted it so hard when I was finished with it the book was horrible
hateistoodark 30th-Jan-2013 11:57 pm (UTC)
