James Franco Not Impressed With The Amazing Spider-Man

Last summer's The Amazing Spider-Man was commercially successful, but met with a mixed response from critics and, to some degree, fans, many of whom couldn't get past the fact that the reboot retread so much territory covered by Sam Raimi's earlier trilogy.

Well, one of the stars of those previous Spidey films, James Franco, shares those less than enthusiastic feelings. When asked by MTV about his thoughts on the reboot, Franco didn't pull any punches, saying "I mean, they could have strayed a little bit more from the original. It was like, ‘Why?’ I guess they made a lot of money. Congrats. Good for them. Sam and I moved on. We made Oz."

IA, I think Andrew had, well, still has the potential to be a better Peter than Tobey was, but the writing was so awful, it made him really unlikeable. Tobey's Peter wasn't even close to the comics' Peter, but I thougt it was a lot easier to root for him and get involved in his story than with Andrew in TASM.

I still haven't seen it and I don't think I will any time soon. The Raimi films are too recent (plus, ngl, I've rewatched them over the years too) and I don't have a hard-on for Andrew Garfield so I honestly can't find a reason to watch it.
winonaforever 30th-Jan-2013 06:09 pm (UTC)
Andrew was better than Maguire but the script was very weak and The Lizard was just embarrassing.
empirebird 30th-Jan-2013 06:09 pm (UTC)
As much as I liked the first Spider Man movie, they completely screwed the franchise with that shitty 3rd film. I loved The Amazing Spider Man. He can stay mad.

Spiderman 3 is a disaster, but I liked the first 2 tbh.

What a douche.

Honestly? I hated Spiderman 3 but The Amazing Spiderman was complete garbage. All of the jokes were annoying and not even remotely funny it was embarrassing. The fights and the villain were pretty lame. Yes, Emma and Andrew had great chemistry, that was the only plus side...
