X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST: A Geek’s Wish List!

Director Bryan Singer keeps delivering Uncanny casting news! Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Ellen Page are reprising their roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past Stars from the original three films will join stars of X-Men: First Class  including Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence The film will be based on the classic storyline in which mutants from the future try to change the past My geeky brain starting thinking of what else would make this sequel even more Astonishing X-fans:

X1 ugh Jackman leading the real Last Stand! In the classic Days of Future Past storyline Logan leads the underground resistance in a future North America ruled by Sentinels. Magneto, Storm, Colossus and Kitty Pryde (now Kate Rasputin) are the only surviving X-Men. The heroes eventually break out of their concentration camp and join Logan on a suicide raid on Sentinel headquarters. Hugh Jackman is set to return so he could play the aging Logan on his last mission.

X2  Rachel Summers! The daughter of Scott and Jean is the key to the story. Rachel is telepathic and telekinetic like her mother and uses her psionic powers to send Kate’s mind into the present day body of a younger Kitty Pryde who must convince the X-Men to prevent an assassination that will lead to this dark future. Bryce Dallas Howard (yes I know she’s already been in a Spidey movie) would be perfect as tragic daughter of Scott and Jean. Rachel was forced to be a “Hound” and track down fellow mutants. In the comic books Rachel escaped the future and went into the past became the new Phoenix and joined the X-Men. She currently teaches as the Jean Grey School.

X3  Franklin Richards! The last surviving member of the Fantastic Four is in love with Rachel. The son of Reed and Susan Storm Richards is in the camp with the surviving X-Men and I won’t reveal his final fate. Mark Millar’s new role as Creative Consultant for the Fox controlled Marvel franchises includes the upcoming reboot of Fantastic Four. This film could serve as a reboot point for both franchises similar to J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek.

X4  Kitty Pryde/Kate Rasputin! Ellen Page is back so will she play the future Kate? Kitty is married to Colossus (as it should be!) but agrees to have her mind travel into the past to rally the X-Men to stop a chain of events leading to the dark future.

X5 renzy! I think the movie version will still have a Brotherhood of Mutants attempting to assassinate a Senator. The killing leads to the creation of the Sentinels. Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) will need new members of their Brotherhood. Why not have the gorgeous and formidable Frenzy aka Joanna Cargill on the roster? This would be a good way to have an African-American character in this retro time period as a way to explore race relations and the human/mutant conflict. In the comics Frenzy is a former mutant terrorist (who followed Apocalypse and Magneto) but joined the staff of the Jean Grey School.

X6  Polaris! Before I knew the X-Men: First Class sequel would be Days of Future Past I was hoping Magneto’s children (Polaris, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch) would appear in the sequel. Polaris aka Lorna Dane is a green haired mutant with magnetic powers and falls in love with Havok (played by Lucas Till.) Polaris is one of the most tragic characters in X-history and having her could lead to romantic scenes with Till and powerful scenes with the men who would be revealed as her father (Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen.) I think maybe Lorna would be the mutant sent back to save the future instead of Kitty. Fassbender is such an amazing actor I would love to see him act out scenes involving one of the most tragic family dynamics in comics.

X7  Halle Berry returns as Storm! Ororo joins Logan in his assault on the Sentinel HQ in the future. I would love to see Berry (and Daniel Cudmore as Colossus) join Hugh Jackman in what is one of the most gripping scenes from the comic book series as the older broken heroes go on a suicide mission to save humanity one last time.

X8  James Marsden as Cyclops and Famke Janssen as Jean Grey? If the time travel twist works it could turn out that Scott was never killed by the Dark Phoenix and Logan never took out Jean.  If Patrick Stewart is back could the other “deaths” of The Last Stand be rewritten?

No Franklin! Boo at that idea. What fan wants that!?!?!

But I would kil for Polaris but I don't like hers and Alex's love story. Mostly cause I loved Ann(a) and hated how she treated her.

I love Franklin Richards sometimes but on his own not in an X-Men movie. Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius is super adorable and I sort of liked the Onslaught storyline for way back when. But he's so not needed in Days of Future Past unless he's dead and he'll be the boyfriend in the fridge.

Annie was the worst, and Chuck Austen should be flayed for how he deconstructed Lorna just and mind raped Alex. (Among his other numerous flaws.)

But she was gonna be a better person (Annie not Lorna). Plus I adored that really short storyline between her son and Juggernaut. But outside of that I really not a fan of Chuck Austen at all.

The Huggernaut made no sense, either. And Austen didn't need to make Lorna legit psycho just to make another woman better. If you're going to break up a classic pair like Havok/Polaris, then do it like PAD did recently: have them realize that they're at different stages in their lives and mutually split. Even as fucked up as Alex was at the time, it was nonsense and way OOC for him to just leave her at the altar.

Okay keep in mind that arc of Uncanny Xmen was the first ongoing Xmen series I read so rose colored glasses I am wearing. And I totally agree there are much smoother better ways to have broken them without fucking over Polaris because of convenance. But outside of the very stupid Lorna/Alex/Annie love triangle I like Annie as a character as a person who didn't like mutants at all but tried because a her son and b she had feelings for Alex. And it stinks to high heaven that after breaking up Lorna and Alex to make Annie/Alex happen it still DOESNT EVEN HAPPEN. That is what pisses me off the most.
