Country singer Mindy McCready is opening up for the first time about the death of her boyfriend earlier this month and denies that she had anything to do with the shooting.
McCready spoke to Today show contributor Andrea Canning Tuesday about David Wilson, 34, -- her boyfriend and father of son Zayne -- who died of a gunshot wound on January 13. "I have never gone through anything this painful," she revealed in the interview conducted at her home in Little Rock, AR. "He didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul. He was my soulmate."
Wilson, a record producer, was initially rushed to the hospital after suffering a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound that did not immediately kill him. McCready recalled how she discovered him after the shooting. "I just started screaming, calling 911. I laid down next to him and just pleaded with him not to die." The singer said Wilson "was responding" after the shooting, but only making sounds, not words.
Investigators have said the shooting investigation remains open, but there are currently no known suspects, including McCready. Tests aimed at determining whether the incident was suicide or murder aren't expected for a few more weeks. When asked directly whether she shot Wilson, McCready responded: "Oh, my God, no. He was my life. We were each others' life."
McCready denied rumors that Wilson was having an affair, and explained that the reason the bullet used in the shooting wasn't discovered until the next day was because it was found by her dog, who had it in its mouth.
The country star and Wilson had been together for about two years, and they share a 9-month-old son named Zayne (McCready also has an older son Zander with singer Billy McKnight).

Why this lady swear the text came from my brother, and that he'd been kidnapped? After I called my brother (who's 27 btw) and assured her he was alive, I checked her phone and the text came from my dad. He was out fishing with his friends. How do I know this? Because the picture had a text with it: "out on the water with George."
