I can't believe kids don't get chicken pox anymore, just a shot. Chicken pox while it sucked was awesome because I got to miss school and it gave me two of my coolest scars from scratching them off.

it's also sad they don't teach cursive. What is wrong with the world.
cuteej4 29th-Jan-2013 07:30 pm (UTC)
It's upsetting that they don't teach cursive. They don't teach a lot of things that I was taught in school anymore.

I had chicken pox but I only had 3 chicken pox. I scarred on all three of them. My brother took the brunt of them and had them EVERYWHERE including under his fingernails and eyelids
phillymademe 29th-Jan-2013 07:31 pm (UTC)
My brother took the brunt of them and had them EVERYWHERE including under his fingernails and eyelids

this was me. i had them everywhere on my body. it was horrible.
phillymademe 29th-Jan-2013 07:30 pm (UTC)
ugh having chicken pox was the worst. my left arm kind of looks like polka dots because of my chicken pox scars lol.

some schools still teach cursive. when i student taught last year, i'd have a new cursive letter and words on the board for the students to practice.

isthisdesire 29th-Jan-2013 07:30 pm (UTC)
what and what

If I had to suffer through horrible chicken pox because my brother gave them to me, every kid should have to suffer through them.

They don't teach cursive anymore? I remember penmanship classes and my A+'s. The sloppy writers need it tbh
h0tfuss 29th-Jan-2013 07:32 pm (UTC)
I got my coolest scar when I got a compound fracture from falling out of a tree.

We are 5 MY SCAR IS COOLER THAN YOURS.

Chicken pox is usually nbd, but as someone who had shingles at age 22 (I KNOW), I have to say it was like the least awesome thing ever and I'd definitely recommend getting the shot if it'll help prevent that shit. D:
lillylilacs 29th-Jan-2013 07:34 pm (UTC)
ikr, chicken pox sucked but it was also kind of awesome. I remember I got to take so many baths (normally my mother only let me take showers), and I got prizes because it sucked so much.
bluebandit77 29th-Jan-2013 07:35 pm (UTC)
it was the worst..being itchy isn't fun.
cherrynorth 29th-Jan-2013 07:36 pm (UTC)
I feel so lied to, though - my 3rd grade teacher SWORE that someday I would be required to write exclusively in cursive, but that day never came.
stephaniebrown 29th-Jan-2013 07:38 pm (UTC)
i've never had chicken pox D:
mandramoddle 29th-Jan-2013 07:41 pm (UTC)
IA with all of this.

My doctor said it was best for females especially to get chicken pox because if they somehow contract it while they're pregnant it can lead to birth defects for the baby.

The education system is STUPID. My daughter has so much homework and comes home crying from stress at school and at home thanks to all the homework she gets and she's only 7. Her teacher is a real bitch as well and I can't comprehend how she's even a teacher.
hoot 29th-Jan-2013 07:46 pm (UTC)
If you're healthy and get chicken pox as a kid it's not a big deal. However my friend got chicken pox at 17 and had to be hospitalized. They went down his throat and everything.
rhapsodeeinblue 29th-Jan-2013 07:48 pm (UTC)
I've never had chicken pox--I got the shot even back in the day~ (I'm 25.)

But yeah, I'm sad about cursive too. You write so much faster with it!
theblackwidow 29th-Jan-2013 08:12 pm (UTC)
It is good they don't teach cursive any more. The school I worked at didn't have recess (even for kindergarten and first grade) because they had to focus on standards.
bmblebeela 29th-Jan-2013 08:31 pm (UTC)
damn this is some serious brand new information right here
williammiller 29th-Jan-2013 08:53 pm (UTC)
Can you get it later on in life if you haven't had it as a kid though?
thishollywood 29th-Jan-2013 10:38 pm (UTC)
if u get chicken pox, u can get shingles later on in life

wiki search "shingles" now and then tell me chixpox r kewl.....
zeldafitzgerald 29th-Jan-2013 07:26 pm (UTC)
I had the oddest/best dream ever. Idris Elba and I were a committed couple and the dream went on for years and we still got it on, even towards the end when we were old.

I don't know whether to always drink scotch right before bed or never again, tbh.
gonerilandregan 29th-Jan-2013 07:26 pm (UTC)
just started getting into BBC's Sherlock. my fave scene so far:

(she used to be married to Josh Dallas, who plays Charming on Once Upon a Time; I had no idea.)
la_petite_singe 29th-Jan-2013 07:28 pm (UTC)
Ahahaha, oh god, be careful where you mention Irene. Stans hate her for coming between John and Sherlock's ~great romance and haters hate her for being horribly anti-feminist, apparently. But personally I LAHV her and that whole episode. ♥
gonerilandregan 29th-Jan-2013 07:30 pm (UTC)
Why am I not shocked? Haha.

w/e, I love her too!
bluebandit77 29th-Jan-2013 07:40 pm (UTC)

I actually enjoyed Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, NEGL
buncha_cruncha 29th-Jan-2013 07:55 pm (UTC)
I really want to see it.
beachwee 29th-Jan-2013 07:27 pm (UTC)

how are you all?
my knee is being fabulous and getting better <3

la_petite_singe 29th-Jan-2013 07:27 pm (UTC)
I'm up to 15 films for 2013. Still not my usual standard, but not too bad.
buncha_cruncha 29th-Jan-2013 07:27 pm (UTC)
Going to the Sabres/Leafs game tonight, yay!!! So glad hockey is back. :)

LET'S GO BUFFALO
h0tfuss 29th-Jan-2013 07:33 pm (UTC)
I don't get that Canadian shit. The word is LEAVES.
buncha_cruncha 29th-Jan-2013 07:47 pm (UTC)
lol, IKR?
celtic_thistle 29th-Jan-2013 08:27 pm (UTC)
It's actually because of a regiment from WWI (iirc) known as the Maple Leafs. One member of the regiment would be a Maple Leaf. It's like calling a family with the last name Wolf the "Wolves." It doesn't make sense. You know?
smokesinatra 29th-Jan-2013 07:28 pm (UTC)
also: I saw breakfast at tiffany's for the first time last night and I fucking hate holly golightly. I can't believe people want to imitate her/her lifestyle/her life?!?! did I see the same movie? she was such a dick!!
la_petite_singe 29th-Jan-2013 07:28 pm (UTC)
Have you read the novella? It's MUCH different/better, imo.
smokesinatra 29th-Jan-2013 07:30 pm (UTC)
no! I haven't, but I have heard that before
distant_lines 29th-Jan-2013 07:31 pm (UTC)
I'm one of those people that absolutely adores the movie, and I do love Holly, but I don't want to emulate her. I don't really get why people would want to, but her character intrigues me a lot. I definitely think the movie/book isn't for everyone.
h0tfuss 29th-Jan-2013 07:35 pm (UTC)
She's very Bella Swan, so inherently SPECIAL that people can't help but want to take care of her and fix her life for her.
oldfrenchminuet 29th-Jan-2013 08:00 pm (UTC)
I recently watched it for the first time too!!! I also thought she was kinda insufferable but still, cute movie..
cuteej4 Re: My First Solo Vacation. 29th-Jan-2013 07:35 pm (UTC)
But why Arizona?
deathbytamarind Re: My First Solo Vacation. 29th-Jan-2013 08:25 pm (UTC)
Awesome! I took a solo vacay to Arizona for spring training a few years ago and it was the best thing I ever did for myself.
aprilfunk Re: My First Solo Vacation. 29th-Jan-2013 11:54 pm (UTC)
The desert sunsets in Arizona are pretty. Even though the politics are shit, there's some really nice things to be found there!
distant_lines 29th-Jan-2013 07:28 pm (UTC)
I went to go for a run today and had to stop after 10 minutes because I had a killer pain in my side. I don't remember pulling a muscle, but it seriously feels like one.
