Taye Diggs Chases Down Home Invader

title or description

A quick note to any salesmen hoping to unload a home security system on Private Practice star Taye Diggs: He doesn't need one.

Last night, after returning to his Los Angeles home from the Screen Actors Guild Awards with his wife Idina Menzel at 11:20 p.m., Diggs discovered a burglar in his garage. The intruder – first reported on by TMZ and later identified as Hassan Juma, 20 – attempted to flee, but didn't get very far.

"The suspect tried to run away, but [Diggs] chased him down the street and was able to detain him until police arrived," LAPD spokesman Richard French tells PEOPLE. "At this time, I don't know exactly what he did to the suspect to detain him."

Juma was arrested, charged with burglary and is currently in custody. Bail has been set at $50,000.

Diggs's crime-fighting exploits capped off a busy evening for the actor. Earlier in the night, he and Cougar Town actress Busy Philipps handed out the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series to Claire Danes for her role in Homeland.

At the after-party following the awards ceremony, Diggs, 42, and wife Menzel ripped it up on the dance floor to the beats of DJ Pesce.

age thirteen. i wasn't home when my house was robbed(in detroit). i came home after school to the front door unlocked and a creepy feeling in my gut. yep, robbed. while most things were gone, everything that was left created a mess. they not only stole basically everything from every room in the house, they cleaned out the freezer, and stole even the unopened pop from the fridge. i had a puppy at the time which was in the corner shaking and afraid. i was just happy they didn't take her. it's strange going into your bedroom to find all your clothes gone, and your underwear drawer on the floor, half empty.

it took the cops four and a half hours to show up. this was just one of severallll times it took them forever to show up. including when i called for shootings in front of my neighbours, when a homemade bomb was put and set off on my porch, when my neighbours across the street were robbed.... so many more.

Ugh I know. I used to live in Inglewood and it was normal to hear gun shots and not hear the sirens until 30-45 minutes after the fact

it kind of breeds a certain disdain for cops inside you.....

i don't have any problem with forensics, detectives- you know, people who actually do things that change the world. but fucking beat cops? fuck them.
supermishelle 29th-Jan-2013 06:48 am (UTC)
It definitely does. I have a laundry list of reasons I hate cops and this girl tried to shame me over it today and tell me "cops put themselves at risk to protect me every day" I was just like "My Black ass? LOL, so where were the cops protecting me when my house got shot up?" And she had nothing to say. It's so annoying when people get downright offended when you criticize police. They're fucking corrupt and classist.
imonster 29th-Jan-2013 06:57 am (UTC)
beat cops are fucking ASSHOLES. if they don't start out that way, the power eventually corrupts them. they put themselves at risk to protect? are you kidding me? who are they protecting? they don't show up until after a crime has been committed. where is their value? they aren't solving any crimes, they're not helping anybody turn their lives around, they're not preventing any crimes from taking place.

and they prefer dumb motherfucking jocks who can't hack it at any other place of employment.

In my experience detectives don't give a shit either.
imonster 29th-Jan-2013 06:58 am (UTC)
seriously? what happened with you? fuck, my world is crashing. i always imagined those were the ones who lived in caffeine to try to solve a case and beat themselves up that the world is bad, and want to do everything they can to help the innocent. i thought they lived for true justice.

My bff has five, count 'em, FIVE direct relatives who are NYPD. Four uncles and one cousin. And you know what I've learned from my personal acquaintance with them? Flava Flav was right.

so scaryyy :( When I lived in Harlem me and my friend were chilling on the stoop and we heard a woman scream bloody murder for help like, it was no joke it sounded like someone was being horrifically stabbed. We ran out to see where it was coming from but couldn't and assumed she'd been taken off in a car. We were asking this girl if she heard it but she didn't and then this fucking CREEP was like 'you wanna know what happened to that girl? come over here I'll tell you I know what happened to her' but we stayed talking with the girl and it took the cops an hour to get there, and they pretty much looked at us like 'pfft white girls over reacting in the ghetto' and left with out even bothering to question the fucking creep who was STILL THERE being a shady fucker. It still bothers me beacuse I just KNOW someone got murdered and no one gave a shit. FUCK the cops in bad parts of town not giving a shit basically

seriously, it's like cops don't value human life. they're just trying to get a paycheck and some kind of ego boost. i wonder what happened to the girl. i know they're worse in inner cities, but even in the suburbs they're like that. i was shopping in the suburbs and watched three guys run out of a grocery store and chase down a man (probably in his 20s or 30s) and stomp him in the parking lot, even when they had him in the ground they were still kicking him in the face. he lay on the cement unconscious. i started to yell "what the fuck" at them, and they yelled "he's a thief, he stole from our store" and "mind your own business". he was unconscious and one still kept his knee in his back to keep him on the ground. me and another woman who saw it were both angry and stood there the whole time. cops came and told us to back up and threatened to detain us when we refused to leave. they weren't interested in our statements of what we witness. the other lady started to yell at the one white cop and he grabbed her arm "that's enough" so i walked away.

i still don't know what happened to the guy. he could have ended up with brain damage, or worse. i hate cops and cop wannabes. he stole from a grocery store so you chase him down? he was probably trying to feed his family. do you own stock in the store, motherfuckers? you're an hourly worker. fuck you. sorry, i mad

WOW. I mean stealing FOOD is something you should have some fucking compassion for. Stories like this make me RAGE. Even if he was stealing electronics or something, it's not like they were actually harming anyone. WOW. I'd have probably totally went in and started attacking the people beating the guy, just so they couldn't 'ignore' my statement. I'd have lost my temper and let myself be 'detained' while hopefully someone was filming it. Then go to the press about it because holy SHIT. Thats what I do love about modern technology is that everyone has a camera and these assholes can't get away with that kind of shit. I can't stand corrupt ass cops who just don't feel like doing any paperwork and just accept the cleanest case so they don't have to do anything. WOW. I'd be plotting revenge. And seriously like I've worked at a ton of retail places you aren't allowed to go after someone and its really STUPID fucking idea to risk your life over whatever meanial shit they got away with stealing. Like everything in an entire walmart is not worth one life let alone something they can carry out with them. Sounds like some violent pieces of shit just looking for any excuse to do that and get away with it.
green__desire 29th-Jan-2013 08:47 am (UTC)
but yea, I really hate that you will just NEVER know what happened. I'm never going to be able to un-hear that blood curdling cry for help, and the gross feeling realising we were the only two people that bothered to do something about it. I mean she had to be more than a block away, I can't even imagine how many people must have heard it and just ignored it.

oh my god FUCK THAT GUY sounds so shady... i'm actually picturing him as like, the troll under the bridge... he might be in my nightmares tonight
