The X-Files to Return to Comics

IDW Publishing, a comic book publisher that's been restoring the name of licensed comics as of late with great offerings for TMNT, Ghostbusters, Star Trek, Transformers, G.I. Joe and more, is adding another beloved property to that list: The X-Files.

Agents Mulder and Scully are set to return in comic book form in June 2013, and will continue the story from where X-Files: I Want to Believe left off. The last time they appeared in comics was the IDW/Wildstorm crossover series 30 Days of Night/X-Files in 2009. Previously published through DC's Wildstorm, the new X-Files comics will be joined by reprinted collections of previous volumes of X-Files comics that ran from 1995 (from the now defunct Topps Comics) through to the DC-era.

Here are some quotables from IDW's official press release:

“The X-Files is a classic property that helped redefine fans’ expectations for the science-fiction and horror genres,” said IDW’s President/Chief Operating Officer Greg Goldstein. “The possibilities for new comic stories are virtually unlimited!”

“The fans of The X-Files have remained loyal to the series since its conclusion. What better way to continue the show’s legacy and give back to them than through new stories in a different medium,” said Jeffrey Godsick, President of Fox Consumer Products. “IDW has worked with a number of our Fox properties, and we know they’re going to do great things with these iconic characters.”

“Few shows have captured the zeitgeist and fans’ imaginations like The X-Files, and fewer shows still have left people hungry for more in the way this one did,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. “Our new series will be picking up where the second film left off, which will hopefully be as exciting for fans to read as it is for us to develop.”

Unfortunately, no information about a creative team has been given at this time, but we'll certainly keep you updated -- the truth is out there.

Sadly, I have given up on there ever being XF3, but I will consume anything Mulder and Scully, so I'll probably get the trade of this when it comes out.
mementox 29th-Jan-2013 03:40 am (UTC)

It cracks me up that she can never remember anything besides Bad Blood and he remembers so much.
i_bleed_magenta 29th-Jan-2013 04:41 pm (UTC)
lol i saw her do a Q&A this summer, and someone asked her if she'd consider writing a book about her life and she said "what would I write about? i can't remember anything!"
seishin 29th-Jan-2013 04:15 am (UTC)

The part at the end with the shooting sucked for me. I could never control the gun properly and I always fucked up at that part.
allwasnew 29th-Jan-2013 04:01 am (UTC)
I watched all of this last week at work and I don't even know why.
allwasnew 29th-Jan-2013 04:03 am (UTC)
Also, I had it for Playstation and it took me like twelve hours to find that goddamn cigarette butt in the warehouse.

And to this day, I sometimes feel bad about giving that techie guy radiation sickness. There was no way around it in the game, and they never resolve it. I guess he just dies and it's all my fault. Thanks, game.

Ugh, what fuckers wanted Scully always trailing behind Mulder? Ew at them.
egalitarianmuse 29th-Jan-2013 05:28 am (UTC)
Oh my god, did you see that convention appearance where somebody "complimented" Scully as a representative character for being able to resist boning Mulder for so long and Gillian was not having that shit?

"Scully is the epitome of womanhood,” one [fan] shrieked. “Not only can she kick butt, she can work with Mulder without jumping him!” Anderson arched a brow. “So the epitome of womanhood is sexual restraint?” she replied, deadpan. “I don’t think so."

This perfect being of light.

Please do!
andi88 29th-Jan-2013 03:46 am (UTC)
We should start a petition on Whitehouse.org to have them enforce the XF3 issue be addressed by FOX. We only need 100,000 signatures, dumber things have been petitioned lol.
mementox 29th-Jan-2013 03:51 am (UTC)
I will go door to door for this cause
andi88 29th-Jan-2013 03:52 am (UTC)
lol, do you wanna do it? I'm curious if we can actually get a good number. I will advertise like crazy.
theblackwidow 29th-Jan-2013 04:02 am (UTC)

well this did work tbh

adigallia 29th-Jan-2013 04:09 am (UTC)
It's gotta be, I would think. Carrie Fisher has talked about how funny/unreal it is to be on everything from dolls to shampoo bottles.
365reasonswhy 29th-Jan-2013 03:49 am (UTC)
I've given up hope for a 3rd X-Files movie, but this is good.

I'd rather have an official novelisation of what they'd do for a third movie though, even if we can't have the actual movie. Still sad we didn't get a 2012 invasion movie.
mementox 29th-Jan-2013 03:52 am (UTC)
Yessss if they can't do a movie then a novel would be the second best thing
allwasnew 29th-Jan-2013 04:05 am (UTC)
In middle school I used to read the crap out of the XF novelizations, and I would read the crap out of new ones now. Some publishing house, get on this.
365reasonswhy 29th-Jan-2013 04:10 am (UTC)
I have two, Antibodies and Whirlwind, that I picked up at the Dollar Store (lol and sad Debbie Downer horn about them being at the Dollar Store) last year that I had never read. I still haven't read them. I need to get on that.
seishin 29th-Jan-2013 04:23 am (UTC)
I still have one of the novels that was published in the 90's. It took place in Arizona and had an invisible murderer running around.
arsenicsugar 29th-Jan-2013 06:55 pm (UTC)
omg the novelizations. I liked Ground Zero and Whirlwind. I warn everyone off of Skin because I found some parts of it offensive and borderline racist :/
