CW Picks Up "The Tomorrow People" and "Blink"

tp
The CW has ordered a pilot for a current adaptation of "The Tomorrow People," a beloved '70s British series about humans with supernatural abilities. Powers like telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, and other interesting tele-things emerge in teenagers, complicating their lives and relationships. Presented as the next stage of human evolution, the only thing these teenagers can't do is intentionally kill other people.

The new adaptation has quite a pedigree, as it's executive produced by Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "Political Animals") and Julie Plec ("The Vampire Diaries," "Kyle XY"). The pilot was written by Phil Klemmer ("Chuck").

In other C-dub news, the network also picked up hour-long family dramedy pilot "Blink." It's about a man who gets into a car accident and enters a vegetative state where he can still see and hear his family around him -- but can't actually interact with them. (We're assured that it's cheerier than it sounds.) The pilot was written by Vera Herbert, best known for her work on MTV's "Awkward."

Thoughts? Oh I was trying to find something on the "Tomorrow People" since I don't really know about it and found this. ONTDers who know about this show kindly share your thoughts and feelings about this remake.

Tomorrow People could be interesting, but that theme has been done over and over with varying degrees of success. It's one of those neat ideas, but never seems to catch on. Or it has as a really strong start like Heroes or Misfits, then tanks after a couple of seasons. Since this is the CW it will either last one season or 20 seasons.

who would watch blink?

i imagine it's all the secondary characters that come to sit by him and tell him about their daily drama and he's just lying there thinking "shut the fuck up", but can't tell them; what a struggle.

So basically Ghost Whisperer?
cherisheddreams 28th-Jan-2013 09:37 pm (UTC)
but have they picked up season 3 of Hart of Dixie? that's the real question!

Omg I loved the Tomorrow People! It used to come on at the weirdest times on Nickelodeon when I was a kid <3

Orrrrrr you could just air one of the greatest shows ever, Misfits, and call it a day.

WHICHEV.

Blink sounds like a terrible idea for a series.

Since this is the CW it'll probably get 10 seasons.

Blink has the same concept as Saving Hope and let me tell you it gets boring after episode 3.

The Tomorrow People sounds interesting

I feel like they tried an update of The Tomorrow People on like Nickolodeon or something in the 90s and it was like 12 episodes and then got cancelled.

I remember loving the nickelodeon remake when I was really little. I can't remember a thing that happened though other than a kid teleporting into the middle of an ocean.

FDHGSHLKGHFSDHK TOMORROW PEOPLE POST ON ONTD???

Aw man, I can totally get behind this.

As long as they make sure they keep the idea of the teenagers being just that: older children facing adversity and danger from authorities, instead of just being WHOOSH POWERS BAM.

Prime barrier, guys. They'd better respect it. ;__;

Whatever. STOKED.

I once had the entirety of the Tomorrow People (both 60's and 90s) with the dvd files from a torrent. But I deleted it for space. I have regretted it ever since, especially since the server it was on is still down.

Srsly tho, Tomorrow People should be on MTV. CW will just make it all about romance while MTV will at least try not to.

Wasn't there a 90s reboot of The Tomorrow People that aired on Nickelodeon? I think I watched that one, not the original 70s version.

Yes, with a bb Naomie Harris. I loved it.

Definitely going to tune in for "Tomorrow People"

Ugh, no thank you to both of those.

TV needs less Julie Plec, not more.
