CW Picks Up "The Tomorrow People" and "Blink"

The CW has ordered a pilot for a current adaptation of "The Tomorrow People," a beloved '70s British series about humans with supernatural abilities. Powers like telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, and other interesting tele-things emerge in teenagers, complicating their lives and relationships. Presented as the next stage of human evolution, the only thing these teenagers can't do is intentionally kill other people.

The new adaptation has quite a pedigree, as it's executive produced by Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "Political Animals") and Julie Plec ("The Vampire Diaries," "Kyle XY"). The pilot was written by Phil Klemmer ("Chuck").

In other C-dub news, the network also picked up hour-long family dramedy pilot "Blink." It's about a man who gets into a car accident and enters a vegetative state where he can still see and hear his family around him -- but can't actually interact with them. (We're assured that it's cheerier than it sounds.) The pilot was written by Vera Herbert, best known for her work on MTV's "Awkward."

Thoughts? Oh I was trying to find something on the "Tomorrow People" since I don't really know about it and found this. ONTDers who know about this show kindly share your thoughts and feelings about this remake.

I've always been curious about an Alex Mack remake, but maybe darker? Kind of Dark Angel-ish, I guess.

I would love an Alex Mack remake, but to be so completely true to the times. Like it has to be set in the 90s and have the same effects.

I would love an Alex Mack remake.

Julie Plec is involved in Tomorrow People?

primalsex 28th-Jan-2013 09:23 pm (UTC)
mte I can almost touch this show's cancellation.

I think the CW promoted her and Sera Gamble as part of a conspiracy to discredit women as show runners.
lysanna 28th-Jan-2013 09:34 pm (UTC)
I would subscribe to that theory.

sometimes i don't get the rush of cancellations and pilots for every tv season. wouldn't it be more profitable to just support the shows they already have for two years before a new pilot cycle w/e?
drypumpernickel 28th-Jan-2013 09:21 pm (UTC)
Ugh, I don't trust CW w/any show. Every show I've tried either turns out not to my taste, completely suckballs and/or ends up completely ruined.

Flawless, aren't they? my heart is still broken </3
primalsex 28th-Jan-2013 09:21 pm (UTC)
ugh another network should had picked up The Tomorrow People. I feel the CW will just make a watered-down Misfits.
ragechill 28th-Jan-2013 09:24 pm (UTC)
The Tomorrow People seems interesting but I'm living a CW free life and I'm happy about that.
ragechill 28th-Jan-2013 09:34 pm (UTC)
Which other CW shows do you watch? Other than Emily Owens? Because that's cancelled and after the final episodes you can quit the network! LOL

Haven't heard of The Tomorrow People, but I love that kind of stuff, so I'll check it out.

maybe Julie only sucks at running existing shows. maybe if she started with a fresh show it'd be fine.

lol what it's possible

I WISH i had their power to teleport.

GOD i loved the tomorrow people.
winter_lace 28th-Jan-2013 09:25 pm (UTC)
So the tomorrow people is the old version of Misfits?
fwee_prower 28th-Jan-2013 09:30 pm (UTC)
well tbh they all had the same power set.

I'm not sure how blink is going to work for more than one episode. It sounds like what happens when people are desperately trying to make a project unique.
wauwy 28th-Jan-2013 09:28 pm (UTC)
This show... bored me sfm when it used to air on Nickelodeon. I tried, I really did.
fwee_prower 28th-Jan-2013 09:28 pm (UTC)
So unless the blink show has the guy have the ability to astral project and take over other ppls bodies while solving crimes, it sounds boring as hell
lysanna 28th-Jan-2013 09:36 pm (UTC)
that sounds muchmore interesting
maybe he could also meet some Snapewives on the astral plane, while he's there
cvantien 28th-Jan-2013 09:30 pm (UTC)
I adored the first incarnation, nhft if its like the 90s reboot with Kristian Schmit

Both sound like flops. DC has several young super hero teams that could work on The CW, but instead we get this. SMDH.
