Concept art from American Horror Story: Asylum

From Jared Marantz:

"This is one of my absolute favorite projects to work on. I'm a big fan of the show and I love working on these designs for Christian Tinsley and Ryan Murphy. Coming up with the look and feel of these characters is a collaborative effort and I love how the project pushes Design further every year. Asylum took a lot of work, much more than season one. There was so much to do and it was a lot of fun. This show just had so much going on I can't even imagine what Murphy will come up with for next season."

The lesbian survived though.

but was raped, tortured, forced to carry a child she didn't want (i say forced because ryan murphy made that creative decision and nothing in lana's character profile up to that point had indicated she wouldn't abort), and portrayed as a "bitch" when she and kit met in the coffee shop.

True, but I was still shocked she lived
totegay 28th-Jan-2013 10:09 pm (UTC)
me too. you know murphy's set the bar extremely low when you're excited for a character to just survive.

ITA about Lana not showing any indication that she wanted to keep the baby. It was just... weird. I thought she was simply freaking out from having to undress and whatnot, but the whole "I don't want any more death" thing was stupid. I mean... she fucking kills him in the end. Which was brilliant based on where the plot went, but she shouldn't have given birth to him in the first place. Contrived all the way.

It's a horror story. What do you expect to happen? Horrible things happen to characters in Horror stories. Also, I didn't know that being a lesbian meant that you have to be pious and kind and not having any character flaws.

jfc a lot of other characters had horrible things happen to them and were portrayed in a worse light than lana.

ummm... this is only a valid point if she was the only character having this stuff done. Everyone had shit done to them and more were straight and some were men. It's literally a horror story set in a time where women were treated differently. And most of this stuff was historically accurate with the treatment of gays and women. I hate ryan murphy a lot, but not for that reason.

Funny since I've heard rants from people saying the exact opposite.
totegay 28th-Jan-2013 09:51 pm (UTC)
really? i don't watch glee, but didn't he have a character out the lesbian without her consent and he faced no repercussions whatsoever?
cyberghostface 28th-Jan-2013 09:53 pm (UTC)
I only watch AHS, but I've heard complaints from people that the show is just about how horrible men are,
totegay 28th-Jan-2013 09:54 pm (UTC)
lol poor men.

except lana survived it all and the rapists and torturers got their comeuppance. she was the only one who came out the other side.
he had a lesbian as the main character of the show, he had a female villain (mary eunice), he had an interesting role for an older woman (jude) too.
go3x Have you even watched the show?29th-Jan-2013 04:36 am (UTC)
The protagonist/lead character is a Lesbian. She went through horrible thing not because she's a Lesbian but because it's a horror series where horrible things happen to everyone.

The plot was also to drive down the point that women were so disadvantaged back then because all they had to do to be institutionalized was to be different/not following strict society role of being a mother/wife.
