SAG Awards 2013: Who Will (and Should) Win

EW's Anthony Breznican makes predictions in the movie categories, Ken Tucker offers picks on the TV side.

MOVIES: Outstanding Ensemble

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Les Misérables
Silver Linings Playbook

Will Win/Should Win: Daniel Day-Lewis' work is so uncanny it threatens to overshadow the great work of his many co-stars, but Lincoln is no one-man-show. On the other hand, Silver Linings Playbook is the film where most of its stars are on equal footing, making it the truest ensemble of the bunch. It's a showcase for the group, rather than one single stand-out performer.

Worth Noting: Many consider this SAG's version of the Best Picture award, and voters may think of it the same way, voting for the movie they liked the most, rather than the cast they liked the most. If Argo wins, it will be a sure sign that the thriller is on a path to Best Picture at the Academy Awards, despite (or perhaps TO spite) the snubbing of director Ben Affleck.

Lincoln or Silver Linings will win ensemble. JLaw is probably beating Chastain here and at the oscars as both SAG and the oscars liked SLP better than ZDT, though if Riva wins Bafta she's a threat too. De Niri might win here, he's legend and it's his first nomination. Hathaway and DDL aren't losing, meh.

I always have that tiny bit of hope that Hathaway will lose it (just out of hate) but that ain't happening so...
winonaforever 26th-Jan-2013 05:49 pm (UTC)
Her face if she did would be legendary lol, but yeah it's not happening.
cookinguptales 26th-Jan-2013 05:48 pm (UTC)
I did not like Amour, but I have to admit that Riva was fantastic.
ellaellaeheheh 26th-Jan-2013 05:40 pm (UTC)
Argo winning ensemble? no thanks.
angi_is_altered 26th-Jan-2013 05:41 pm (UTC)
I read Silver Linings Playbook and it was a really fantastic engrossing book. Now I want to see the movie.
genbu_no_miko24 26th-Jan-2013 06:52 pm (UTC)
Alot of people have it's really different from the book :/
hjohnson 26th-Jan-2013 07:12 pm (UTC)
I don't think its that different. It has the same essence, just a few things here and there are changed. I wish they kept the more simpler ending thats in the book rather than the movie, but otherwise... there are some things I like that the movie did too
spankmypirate 26th-Jan-2013 05:43 pm (UTC)
Hugh Jackman, John Hawkes and Deniro pls

Keep snatching those awards, ginger troll Damian

FInally saw Silver Linings Playbook. I liked it but I'm surprised at how it's getting all these award recognitions.
anus 26th-Jan-2013 06:10 pm (UTC)
Same. Only Bradley Cooper's performance stood out to me because I always thought he had no range at all. I'm amazed nobody is talking about him.

the best exotic marigold hotel was so amazing i'm sad it's not gonna win anything

Lawrence better not get that Oscar. Nothing in her performance screams Oscar.

I still think she was nominated so young viewers will tune in for the Awards.

If she wins that oscar, let's just pray she wrote/read her speech beforehand.

I didn't think Silver Lining Playbook was that great. Modern Family either(its way overrated imo).

Idk about the rest of these and the only thing I'm sure about is that Glee shouldn't win anything.
prettyfoot 26th-Jan-2013 05:55 pm (UTC)
Woah, is that Gale in Lincoln?

Critics needs to stop sucking Homeland's dick.

The back half of season 2 was a mess. Let's stop pretending otherwise.
ms_mmelissa 26th-Jan-2013 06:14 pm (UTC)
IA although I think for awards bodies they only send in one ep, so if they sent in stuff from the first half of season 2 I have no problems with them winning anything. They killed it.
crucified 26th-Jan-2013 06:58 pm (UTC)
Seriously. That show winning everything is so fucking boring.
tusiaczek87 26th-Jan-2013 07:00 pm (UTC)
i hope it will end next season

it is pissing me off that the quality went to shit so quickly and there are no consequences
deathly_smirk 26th-Jan-2013 07:05 pm (UTC)
Honestly? Never thought it was a brilliant show to begin with. The concept was ooook but the writing was not exactly revolutionary -_-
hateistoodark 26th-Jan-2013 08:18 pm (UTC)
ikr and it started out so good
But lawd at everything after q&a

I saw Django last night and uuugh it was so amazing. Can't believe it wasn't nominated.
tusiaczek87 26th-Jan-2013 07:01 pm (UTC)
as somebody said earlier they didn't send screeners on time
pennyroyaltea 26th-Jan-2013 07:24 pm (UTC)
oh really? i'm not too familiar with how that process works. that's a shame though, it was really excellent. flawfree acting from everyone.
fauxkaren 26th-Jan-2013 06:10 pm (UTC)
Whatever though. The thing I'm most looking forward to tonight is seeing Michelle Dockery's dress. Here's hoping she picks a good one again!
tusiaczek87 26th-Jan-2013 07:04 pm (UTC)
seeing Michelle always brings me joy and my other queen Kerry Washington will also be there, so that alone makes SAG relevant for me
hateistoodark 26th-Jan-2013 08:20 pm (UTC)
The rest of the cast is showing up right?
fauxkaren 26th-Jan-2013 08:26 pm (UTC)
I have no idea.

Michelle is for sure.

I'm sure Maggie won't because she never shows up to these kinds of things.

Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern tend to go to these kinds of things. RJC was on the promo tour earlier this year, so maybe he'll show up. Joanne Froggatt too, maybe?

Idk. There are just a fuckton of cast members and I'm sure that they're not going to all be able to attend, so yeah.
