She never compelled him. She did last episode when she made him and Elena tell the truth to each other and then told him that he wasn't compelled anymore at the end of the episode. She kept telling him she WAS going to this episode but she never did.
I don't think that was compulsion. That was just her speaking. When they do compulsion, the show always draws attention to it--expanding pupils on the victim, excessive focus on the speakers' mouth and voice, a 'blank' expression on the victim.
